Everyone. Listen here and stop what you're doing because Ratchet and Clank (the video game series) is getting a movie. I grew up playing these games with friends and one of the major things we'd say about it is that it feels like we were playing an animated movie.
And it looks like we're finally going to get to watch that movie in April 2016. And after watching the trailer, I think that this movie might be able to break the old "video-game-movie-adaptation-curse" that's be plaguing most video game movies.
Now that a bunch of us are a lot older than we were, I'm worried that the trailer might bug some of my friends because it looks so "childish". After watching the trailer (above) a couple times, it's obvious that the studio behind the movie is trying to create an "all-ages" style movie using the lore from the game as a foundation.
And honestly, I think that it's a great way to approach the movie adaptation. Sure, some of the lines are kind of cheesy (especially the "kick some asteroid" line at the end) but it's still looks like something both kids and adults can enjoy.
I know I'm going to try my best to go see this movie with some younger relatives of mine for two reasons. The first being that I want to introduce them to two iconic video game characters through a fun, animated movie. And the second is, well, really self-serving.
I can still remember walking into an old friend's house as he had one of the Ratchet and Clank games on pause. He quickly ran back to the couch to start it up and staring at the visuals on a 40-inch flat-screen TV, I felt like I was in the future.
I know how dumb that sounds but these games in particular were a part of pushing video game technology to where they are now. It truly did feel like we were playing a full CG movie. It was fun to explore and go through the levels. It felt like an original, living, breathing world and I hadn't seen anything like that prior to playing these games.
I hope that the movie lives up to all the excitement I have for it when I get a chance to see it sometime in April 2016.
