Top Ten Favorite Rock Songs
What are your top ten favorite rock songs? The only rules are 1 song per band, but you can have the same artist on multiple songs, and any genre of rock or metal works. These are mine .
First up is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" by Pink Floyd from their album Wish You Were Here. Don't let the length deter you, it's worth every second. Hard to pick just one for Floyd, since they have so many amazing songs.
Number 2 it's another lengthy piece, "Supper's Ready" from the Genesis album Foxtrot. It's like a vivid dream, and captivates me every time. This was another difficult band to choose only one from.
" Won't Get Fooled Again," from The Who's album Who's Next, is a timeless classic with a timeless message to boot.
Rainbow's "Stargazer" from their '76 album Rising comes in at 4th. Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, Jimmy Bain, what else could you ask for? Incredible album, incredible song.
Steve Vai is at his best on "For the Love of God," which rounds out the top five. One of the greatest guitarists of all time in my opinion.
No. 6 is "Sails of Charon," from the Scorpions' '77 album Taken By Force. Uli Jon Roth's guitar is mesmerizing. Another one of my favorite guitarists.
Yngwie Malmsteen's "Black Star" is a masterpiece. One of the best neoclassical tracks out there.
"Mr Scary" is a diamond in the rough, and takes spot number 8 on my list. Don Dokken is a great singer, but you gotta love George Lynch's guitar on this instrumental track.
No. 9 is the Led Zeppelin song "Ramble On." There were so many amazing options from (arguably) the most talented band of all time, but my personal fave is this track. Lord of the Rings reference? Hell yeah!
Rounding out this list is "War Pigs" off of Black Sabbath's landmark 1970 album Paranoid. Ozzy's chilling vocals and the Iommi/Butler guitars along with Bill Ward's drums combine to form the majestic, haunting sound that made Black Sabbath great.
I'm interested to see other top ten lists. There's so much great rock/metal out there, but everyone has their own faves. What are yours?
