By now, we've all met someone with a ridiculous obsession with their pet. They're the cat owners who buy their cats sweaters. They're the dog owners who pay for their dog's pedicures. However, most of us have yet to meet a guy like 56-year-old Ted Richards.
Ted owns five parrots - Ellie, Teaka, Timneh, Jake, and Bubi - and has had his body modified to look more like them. He has rainbow feathers tattooed on his face. He had his eyes tattooed to look colorful and birdlike. And, this week, he had his ears surgically removed.
Yeah, he's a new kind of pet owner.
Of his six-hour surgical procedure, Ted told South West News Service:
"I think it looks really great. I love it. It's the best thing that has happened to me. I am so happy it's unreal, I can't stop looking in the mirror. I've done it because I want to look like my parrots as much as possible. I've had my hair long for so many years my ears have been covered up."
Ted also adds that he's currently looking for a surgeon to make his nose more beak-like.
And before you call him a freak, he admits he's well aware what he's doing is quite strange:
"There's no doubt that when they made me they broke the mold. But seriously, I love the fact that I'm unique and I have always wanted to be different."
So what do YOU guys think about Ted's surgery? Would YOU go this far for a pet you love? Let me know in the comments below. And for more WTF stories, follow my WTF Street Journal collection.
