Drake Didn't Steal "Hotline Bling" From D.R.A.M. "Cha Cha"
Timing is Everything, just ask D.R.A.M.
Close to a year ago, Virginia artist D.R.A.M. burst on the scene due to his hit song "Cha Cha." A couple months later, OVO rep Drake released a song titled "Hotline Bling" which hosted a similar sample via production.
Rather then speak on it the moment the song dropped, D.R.A.M. held his thoughts on the track to himself.. until now.
Last night D.R.A.M. finally hopped on Twitter to share his thoughts on the Drake's "quasi cover" of "Cha Cha."
"Just performed in Toronto for the 1st time tonight and it was bittersweet. Sweet cus I’m out here sharing my music, my sound with the people..Bitter though, cus after my performance all I’m seeing is Cha Cha/Hotline Bling comparisons on my timeline. Yeah, I feel I got jacked for my record...But I’m GOOD."
While I see the similarities between the tracks, Drake did not steal "Cha Cha" from D.R.A.M.
They are totally different songs across the board. The subject matter is different and the production is different. The sample isn't owned by D.R.A.M. It has been used many different times before in the past.
While I love both artists versions of the song, I think D.R.A.M. is taking things a bit far, what about you?
