The Beastie Boys Will Let Students Record in Their Studio
The Beastie Boys are giving young musicians the opportunity of a lifetime right now.
According to Billboard, the two surviving members of the Beastie Boys have signed a deal with NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music that will allow students access to the group’s famous Oscilloscope studio.
Isn't that great?
In a recent statement NYU said that the access will be used primarily by students who are working on their capstone projects, which the school says require the young women and men come up with a “customized, entrepreneurial music business venture.
While this may rain on the parade of musicians who aren't students at NYU, this makes great sense, as Def Jam OG Rick Rubin did a lot of his early work with the label and Beastie Boys from his dorm room at NYU.
If I were a student at NYU in the music program I would have to do this! You never know who you could meet at the studio or who could hear your music!
