Why I Stopped Eating Meat

On September 29th 2015, I, an irrelevant American, decided to stop eating meat.

Why does this fact matter? I'm not so sure, but some shocking evidence was just released by the World Health Organization that makes me thankful for this decision.

Some facts and figures have been floating around for years, but on Monday a research division of the World Health Organization confirmed that sausage, bacon, and other processed meats are directly linked to cancer.

This thought has been creeping up in my mind since the middle of last year, when by chance I came across one of those horrific videos throwing the horrific treatment of animals in your face.
I've never been one for those scare tactics, or shaming people into creating a false sense of self-righteousness for everyone who doesn't eat meat, but the video made me extremely uncomfortable.
Blood.
Guts.
Little faces and hands.

It was sad. It made me sad. It made me feel bad for contributing.

This singular image from the video stuck to me. I started having nightmares about it. There was this giant metal machine, it looked like something out of Sweeney Todd. Something you'd use to grind up human bones.
Anyway, this thing...this machine's singular purpose is to grind up baby chickens. Chicks, you know those fluffy little things you see waddling near quiet ponds in the summertime? Chicks.
Some hapless worker approaches the big metal beast with a bucket. It's a steely metal thing with a handle, and it's filled to the brim with baby chickens. Chicks. They're flailing about, screaming. Their screams a chorus of horror, panic stricken.

It reminded me of a lot of things, but a tasty meal wasn't one of them.

Anyway, this is not a guilt trip I want to go on, but it got me thinking. How many millions of little animals are slaughtered each year due to the need for people to consume processed meat, which is now proven to cause cancer?
The answer to that question is a mere google search away: 9.4 Billion land animals in the U.S. alone were slaughtered for food.
But that's not the statistic I want to focus on. The statistic deserves attention is the 400 million animals that were saved because people decided to skip a few meals. These people didn't go full on vegetarian or vegan, but they just decided they didn't feel like eating meat.
See, if the demand for such a product goes down, then people stop making that product. Whether we like it or not, meat and animal products are an industry.
I'm not going to sit here typing out some profound example of why meat eating is wrong, and why you're a bad person, you're not. I'm not going to throw a bunch of gruesome photos in here to make you feel bad. No diatribe like that is worth reading.

I don't hold bullying of any kind at a high value. Even if you're trying to do something good, you shouldn't try to force anyone into anything.

I spent much of last year sick to my stomach, not because of anything in particular, but because I was eating poorly. My diet was unbalanced and immature. I was coming off of four years of college and that can destroy anyone's will to eat well.
I don't have any cooking skills, and yes it's hard to resist eating meat right now, I even slipped up and had a burger this weekend. But I'm back on the straight and narrow.
Not eating meat has made me a lot less anxious. I've slept better. Every time I talk to my little cat Miss.Tuffsey on Skype with my parents, I don't feel guilty. Because whose to say which animals are prized and which animals are put on our plates?
I don't know, it may seem like an idealistic argument, or one I may grow out of, but I'm going to try and keep this up for a year. This small change, that I haven't missed that much, has given me a little more peace of mind.

I've been a vegetarian for a month, and I feel a lot better, not only am I sleeping better, feeling more fit and losing weight, but I feel more at peace with myself.

Yes, I'm not vegan. And no, I'm not perfect, but I'm trying. I just think about how much healthier and happier I'll be if I stick with it. I love animals, and I want to help them as much as I can. Right now, not eating meat is all I can do. And I'm cool with that.

anything we do to feel better is a good thing when it all falls into place there is nothing better. Good luck on the vegetarian way
Congratulations on making the right move!! I've been a vegan now for a 3 months and a year as a vegetarian. Trasitioning to vegan was bit tricky at first but now I have no desires on milk or anything else animal products. Best tips I can give to you are 1. cook your own meals. 2. don't be too hard on yourself. 3. be educated. When you cook your meals, you know exactly what goes into your food and you find new inspiration. Don't get upset if you found out that some food you just ate wasn't fully vegan. There are apps available which help you in grocery shopping. And lastly, education. It helps you be in focus when you keep learning and educating yourself on veganism and why you're doing it. Documentaries (cowspiracy, earthlings), speeches (101 reasons to go vegan) and joining into vegan communites keep you motivated! Good luck!
@TessStevens Congratulations on your move....I wish I could join you, but it tastes too goooood
@JerryNogueda it's a good one to go on! We'll do this. I'll look up some more information about how to sustain this kind of diet in a healthy way :) I'll make sure to tag you!
Let's do it 🙇🏻I feel like a little kid starting a new journey

Preclinical research
Before a drug or treatment can be tested on people, clinical researchers should ensure whether it can cause potential risks, side effects, or serious harms, also known as toxicity to the patients. Learn Clinical Research Courses. The two types of preclinical research include the following: ● In Vitro ● In Vivo In the US, the FDA stipulates that researchers must use good laboratory practices (GLP), as defined in medical product development regulations for preclinical laboratory studies. The GLP regulations set the minimum basic requirements for: ● study conduct ● personnel ● facilities ● equipment ● written protocols ● operating procedures ● study reports It also establishes a system of quality assurance for each preclinical study to ensure the safety and efficacy of products approved and regulated by the FDA. Generally, preclinical studies are not conducted on a very large scale. However, these studies must provide detailed information on dosing and toxicity levels. Clinical researchers review their results after preclinical testing. Conclusion Preclinical studies encompass various activities that serve as a link between drug discovery and preparation and the initiation of a clinical trial on humans. The laws regulating preclinical trial norms and requirements worldwide can package differences but generally have some common features. Rodent and non-rodent mammalian models are generally used to set forth general safety and identify toxicity patterns that reveal potential target organs likely to suffer the adverse effects. Are Any of You Gluten-Free (Can You Eat in Korea?)
A lot of people message me on YouTube and Tumblr asking about dietary restrictions in Korea and to be quite honest, it can be tough. Not many people in Korea have food allergies like I am used to in the US (peanut allergies, being lactose intolerant, etc) So when non-Koreans come to Korea and start to ask for certain foods to be changed (like, please don't add carrots) because of an allergy, its uncommon so restaurants often aren't sure what to do. Recently though, there has been a movement to make vegetarianism and veganism more accepted in Korea, a country famous for its meat dishes, and as a result people are learning more about food and different diets! My friend Sunny is Korean and in her late teens she developed allergies to a ton of different things, including gluten. Because her diet because so restricted, she started cooking for herself. She then discovered a small but hungry group of gluten-free people in Korea who wanted some of the desserts she had been baking for herself. After gaining more and more popularity, she opened Sunny Bread and now serves everything from cheesecake to tiramisu to pumpkin pie, all vegan and gluten free! She also knows how hard it is to have an allergy, plus she speaks English really well, so if you go in nand talk to her about what you can and can't eat, I'm sure she'll have suggestions for where to eat in Seoul :) Here's a look at her bakery~ Do any of you have food allergies? What can't you eat?

Hello there!!
I have walked through my mind, seeking answers to issues related to the manner in which we create our reality on the basis of feelings and thoughts, trying to draw a map for those who venture in the search for a truth in themselves... But after so much searching, digging into my thoughts, has come to the conclusion that it is sometimes necessary to be lost to find ourselves... I know, because after so much searching, digging into my memories, seeking simple answers, I could see that the simplicity as such does not exist... It is for this reason that I have returned, with the discovery that many times, without realizing it, we are increasingly away from ourselves, so it is necessary to realize the importance of our existence in our decisions... With that conclusion, I invite you to think about that point of your existence you are here now, and the extent to which you intend to arrive in the future, because many times we forget to ask these questions and, therefore, we forget the sense that lead our actions... Just remember that the farther apparent be yourself, it is the closer you are to the answer. You must remember that the ego has double-edged sword, and therefore can be used as a cure for uncertainty, or as a weapon to finish with the oneness... Well, an apology for disappear suddenly, some even came to ask me if I was good or if something was wrong. I thank those who have provided me with a place in his thoughts as to do such a thing, and I hope we can continue to share moments, thoughts, pieces of existence...until the universe decides to give us another utility...
