That was so disappointing

I have so many thoughts after the Mets' Game 1, 5-4, 14 inning loss to the Royals.

The prevailing emotion is disappointment, but here are my piece-by-piece reactions.

Matt Harvey: not bad, but not what the Mets were looking for.

After allowing a lead-off inside-the-park home run (which I still think should've been an error, but no matter), Harvey settled in really nicely for a few innings. He was himself, mowing down hitters and changing speeds really nicely.
But Ben Zobrist, a thorn in the Mets' side all night, came through big and Harvey exited after the sixth, having allowed 3 runs. The Mets need depth out of their starters if they're going to win the series, and Harvey's six innings just weren't enough.

Jeurys Familia is human.

Familia had a big 'welcome-to-the-show' moment last night. It's so easy to forget that this is his first season as a closer because of how good he's been, but that's the reality, and with inexperience comes mistakes.
Last night, he made a big one. Two outs away from a Game 1 victory, Familia served up a game-tying home run to Alex Gordon. It was crushing for the Mets, who nearly stole Game 1 on the road.
But it wasn't reasonable to expect Familia to go through the entire playoffs unscathed. He was going to slip at some point. The timing of this is tough, but I know that he will bounce back.

The Royals are extremely good.

Since they play in the American League, I hardly ever watched the Royals play this season. After last night, one thing is very clear: they are an outstanding baseball team.
There is no hole in their lineup. 1-9, they put up good at bats and come up with big hits and walks. They are the best contact team in baseball and it showed early, as Harvey seemed uncomfortable pumping fastballs. It messed with him, no question about it.

This is going to be an incredible series.

If I learned anything last night, it's that these two teams are ready to put on a spectacle. For neutral fans, this is going to be a total treat. For Mets or Royals fans, this is going to be a terribly nerve-wracking couple of days.
The MLB's office is going to be thrilled with the quality of the games. Last night was a really, really, really good baseball game. It had everything: baserunning, pitching, hitting, fielding, mistakes, drama, you name it.
It was a tough loss for the Mets in Game 1, but it's only Game 1. They can bounce back with deGrom on the hill tonight. I have faith.

Did you watch the game? What are your reactions?

Yes Familia is human....I understand Harvey, but I did not expect that from Familia! It was a great game though!

Joe Maddon wins Manager of the Year
Not that this is terribly surprising, but it's newsworthy all the same: Joe Maddon is the National League's Manager of the Year. The Cubs went 97-65 this season, a year after going just 73-89. They made the playoffs via the Wild Card and progressed to the NLCS, where they were eventually swept by the Mets in four games. Maddon's presence with the team certainly went a long, long way to turning things around for one of the league's most troubled franchises. It's not all about Maddon, though - this Cubs team was nothing like the 2014 edition. The emergence of young future (and even present) superstars like Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber turned this team on its head. The youngsters, combined with amazing seasons by Anthony Rizzo and pitcher Jake Arrieta made the Cubs one of the most feared teams in the National League. Many had them picked to win the World Series before they ran into the piping-hot Mets in the NLCS. They met an unstoppable force and couldn't pull it off, but had a great season nonetheless. In a somewhat surprising move, the Mets' Terry Collins finished third in Manager of the Year voting behind Maddon and Mike Matheny of the Cardinals. Sure, the Cardinals finished with the best record in baseball, but if you ask me, what Collins did as manager was more impressive than Matheny's work. The Mets' head honcho took a minor league roster and guided them through a brutal first half of the season before picking up some huge mid-season acquisitions and turning on the style late in the season, reaching the World Series before falling to the Royals. Sure, none of this actually matters, and I think most people pretty much agreed that Maddon would win Manager of the Year. Many probably picked Collins to finish second ahead of Matheny, but that's just making an argument for no reason. So, there we have it baseball fans: Maddon, Matheny, Collins. Is this the right order? Would you have given the award to someone else? @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @SamuelRodriguez @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Link4TW @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @DerekGumtow @Straightshooter @Kirooken @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @ChristopherKenn @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @addri @GinnaL13 @VeronicaArtino @TomasVasquez

MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/29/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Anthony Gose (Detroit Tigers) This one went deep and looked like trouble for the Detroit Tigers. But Gose was already at the fence to leap up and snag that home run from Moreland. He timed his jump perfectly and made the play even better with the nonchalant, sidearm throw after he made the catch. The Tigers fell to the Rangers 7-6. 4. Lorenzo Cain (Kansas City Royals) Another great play from a center fielder! The ball stayed high up in the air for some time and looked as if it was just going over the center field wall. Lorenzo Cain however wasn't going to give up and was not afraid of the fence. He leaped up and caught the ball to rob Thompson's home run. The Royals however fell to the White Sox 4-2. 3. Drew Stubbs (Texas Rangers) It's the top of the ninth with the Rangers leading by 1. Runners are on second and third and a big hit could turn the game around. And that is exactly what Ian Kinsler did as he hit one deep into the outfield. But Stubbs wasn't going to let this one get by. He ran full speed and caught the ball to end the game and lead the Rangers to victory. You could see he went all out as he leaped up the fence and almost went over it. Thanks to an amazing play by Stubbs, the Rangers beat the Tigers 7-6. 2. Trayce Thompson (Chicago White Sox) We all know Trayce Thompson is Superman by day, and baseball player by night. Another fantastic play by the Chicago White Sox outfielder. He reached, leaped, and flew for a couple of seconds to make that catch and end the inning. What a play! The White Sox beat the Royals with Thompson's amazing play, 4-2. 1. Martin Prado (Miami Marlins) I'm just going to say it one more time by Martin Prado is one of the best third basemen in the league. He is also one of the toughest players as well. He made it to the list once again with this amazing over-the-fence play when he chased the ball all the way into foul territory, leaped over the fence, and caught it. Derek Jeter might have left baseball, but we definitely have a lot of players to fill his shoes. The Marlins fell to the Rays 4-2. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! Fracture & Ligament Injuries Are The Most Common Sports Injuries : Overview By MnM
According to Stanford Children’s Health, approximately 30 million adolescents and children in the US participate in sports annually, and more than 3.5 million sports injuries are reported each year. According to the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers, an estimated 2 million acute ankle injuries occur annually in the US.  The major restraining factor for the growth of sports medicine market is high cost of implants. The cost of these implants is a major concern for market growth in countries such as India, where only a small section of the population is under insurance coverage (according to the IRDA, in 2017, 76% of the Indian population was uninsured).  Due to the pandemic, most organized sports activities have been on hold or postponed. In March 2020, the International Olympic Committee postponed the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic to 2021. Such developments are expected to significantly affect the growth of the sports medicine market in the coming months.   For More Information Download PDF Brochure @ https://www.marketsandmarkets.com/pdfdownloadNew.asp?id=751 The incidence of ligament tears and fractures is high among people participating in sports. Also, the lower extremity constitutes a major portion of sports injuries, globally. With the increasing participation in sports (among children as well as adults) and subsequent growth in the incidence of sports injuries, the demand for injury management and rehabilitation is expected to increase across the globe. This is considered a positive indicator of the growth of the sports medicine market.  In the sports medicine field, there is an increasing need for trained professionals with the relevant experience and knowledge about using orthobiologics and performing specific surgeries. Sports medicine surgeons provide diagnosis and treatment for musculoskeletal injuries and related disorders that are caused during sports activities.  Sports medicine is widely used for the prevention of sports injuries as well as for the cure, recovery, and rehabilitation of athletes. The sports medicine applications market is segmented into knee injuries, shoulder injuries, foot & ankle, elbow & wrist, back & spine, hip & groin, and other injuries.
The Woman Who Struck Out Babe Ruth
And Lou Gehrig too. On April 2, 1931 the seventeen year-old Jackie Mitchell struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig back-to-back. They were arguably the deadliest hitting duo in baseball history, and she did it in only seven pitches. Which is pretty damn impressive. Less impressive is what happened afterwards. "They are too delicate. It would kill them to play ball every day." Ruth wasn't the most gracious in defeat (via), and some historians have dismissed the exhibition game as an April Fool's Prank. It's unlikely that Ruth would have been visibly upset if he struck out on purpose, nor would he have asked the umpire to inspect the ball. And a few days later, Mitchell's contract was voided on the basis that baseball was "too strenuous" for women. Yeah, beating some of the most famous players of all time sounds really strenuous. What if she broke a nail?! /sarcasm She kept playing anyway. So clearly the game wasn't TOO strenuous (she died in 1987 at the age of 74). She joined the amateur team House of David in 1933, and retired in 1937. Meanwhile, women weren't formally banned from the MLB until 1952, though unofficially they were often kept off the field. Such was the case for Eleanor Engle, who never took the field. The President of the minor leagues stated that no contract with a woman would be approved because “not in the best interest of baseball that such travesties be tolerated.” In the 1970s girls were allowed to join Little League, in the 80s women joined college baseball, and in the 1990s, Ila Borders joined the St. Paul Saints of the independent Northern League. But no female player has reached the majors (yet). But the 100-year anniversary of the time a teenage girl struck out some of the toughest hitters in baseball history. Maybe it'll happen again in 2031?
Love It Or Hate It: Live Sporting Events?
Welcome to the Funny Community game, Love It Or Hate It! This game is really similar to Monday's 'No Good or So Good' food game - except this one deals a lot more with non-food things. Every week, I highlight a different thing that a lot of people either really love or really hate and see how our community feels overall! Last week, I asked you how you felt about SELFIE STICKS. It was an EXTREMELY tight vote, but out of the 60 who gave your opinion, 33 of you said that they're actually kind of useful! Soooo... SELFIE STICKS WIN!!!! This week, I want to know: How do you feel about attending live sports games? Spectator sports have been around since the days of Ancient Greece, but the ones we know and love today came into being in the mid 19th century! The number of Americans that attend at least one live sporting event annually is easily in the tens of millions. However, the amount of them that find said sporting event COMPLETELY BORING is still widely unknown. How do YOU feel about spectator sports? Are they tons of fun or brutally boring? I'm Ashamed of My Hometown
San Diego, get your shit together. Each year at the Padres stadium, Petco Park, the LGBT society in SD holds an event called "Out at the Park" that is meant to bring the community together for an evening of baseball. This year, Petco Park really, really screwed up. The San Diego Men's Gay Chorus was meant to sing the national anthem before the game to represent the LGBT community for this event. Their voices were never heard. The stadium let them take the field, and then as they were about to sing, a recorded female voice instead sang the anthem (which, if you've been to a Padres game, isn't something that happens - we always have live singing) The men had to walk off the field hearing people shouting profane, homophobic things at them. The Padres said it was a mistake, a technical error, a third party contractor, and that they were sorry. But that doesn't explain the other examples of mistreatment. Days prior to the game, the Padres organization told the performers that the chorus would have to pay for their tickets in order to sing. This is not something that happens, ever. If you perform the national anthem, you get to enter the park for free, DUH. Why did the Padres suddenly want this now? That would have cost the small organization thousands of dollars, and after dispute they were finally allowed in as performers. You can listen to their great voices here when they performed in 2015. It's a pity their voices weren't heard this year. Get it together Padres, you're a disappointment in baseball but don't be a disappointment to your entire community.
