Darkings ~ D. James Breaux
Fear’s thickness creeps
Through the convenient cracks and crevices
Of calm’s inner sanctum.
Lethargic,
Measured,
Unhurried.
And it
Takes nightly inventory
While heavy ghosts breathe deep
Beating down death’s damning door
To trap another dead shadow
Halfway down the hall.
Whether its destiny can marry its fate
remains to be seen.
Trapped,
Trapped,
Trapped in loathsome darkness;
Its solitary agenda delayed
Just long enough for nocturnal tallies
To be completed
So fear's awful, clever maneuverings
can stay undetected
And it's smooth machinations
Can willfully disturb one world to the next.
A world where certain things you hear
Ain't often seen;
Hiding,
Hiding,
Hiding in the tenseness of delerium,
Cloaked in the stillness of imaginary relief,
Deceptive and silent.
Sinister and present.
Intrusion,
Intrusion,
Intrusion overlooks,
As innocence,
Innocence succumbs.
