And not just any Broadway show. The hottest musical on broadway right now. Mind you, I might be a little obsessed, but I’m not the only one. The show got a pretty rave NY Times review:
"Hamilton," the mega-buzzy bio-musical about Alexander Hamilton and the founding fathers, opened to glowing accolades. Yes, it really is that good. It's one of the most talked about Broadway shows since "The Book of Mormon" in 2011.
And now, thanks to a $1.46 million grant to NYC public schools, some 20,000 high school students get to see this amazing show, for $10 out of their own pocket.
What’s it about?
"From the creative team behind the Tony Award-winning In The Heights comes a wildly inventive new musical about the scrappy young immigrant who forever changed America: AlexanderHamilton. Tony and Grammy Award winnerLin-Manuel Miranda wields his pen and takes the stage as the unlikely founding father determined to make his mark on a new nation as hungry and ambitious as he is."
On top of that, the music is hip hop and rap. The cast is diverse. And the drama is based on history... what could be cooler than that?
Why this show?
Well, it’s pretty easy to already recognize it’s value educationally. It’s a musical ABOUT OUR FOUNDING FATHERS.
Washington, Jefferson, Madison — they’re are all characters, fighting a war and writing constitutions. And they aren’t just singing about it... they are having straight-up rap battles about it.
If I could see any musical right now, it would be this one.
The music is beyond creative, the script is educational and FUN, and the drama is real. As in the events really happened, HISTORY PEOPLE. What musical nerd wouldn’t want to know about this?
Even the President himself got tickets and went to this show.
So theatre nerds? Don’t you wish you were one of these kids that got to see this show for only $10?
Also, while we are talking about musicals, did you know Vingle has a Musical Community?! Yup! Happy nerding!
