Somewhere I Have Never Travelled (My Favorite Love Poem)
I wanted to share my absolute favorite love poem in the world with you guys. It's delicate, romantic, and so beautiful – everything a love poem should be. But something sets apart from other love poetry – a kind of subtlety, perhaps. I'm not sure.
It's by e.e. cummings, known for his disconcerting use of spacing and typesetting. At first, the lack of spaces surrounding the punctuation marks in this poem throws the reader a little off-kilter, but it was an intentional choice by the poet (and not just me being lazy in my transcription! :P).
For me, it somehow says something about love that I can't verbalize, nor perhaps will ever be able to. And that's what makes it so special. Give it a read, and tell me what you think.

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near
your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose
or if your wish be to close me,i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the colour of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing
(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
From e.e. cummings, Complete Poems: 1904-1962

Really glad you like it @JessHawks! :) Do you have any favorite love poems to share? I'm kind of a die-hard romantic haha, so I'm always looking for recommendations :)

I'm really happy you enjoyed @sketchy101! You're so right; I get the same thing. It's like this delicate, untouchable relationship – as if, if you reached your hand out and touched it, it would just crumble into dust. It's so dangerously fragile, and yet that's what makes it beautiful... and I feel the same way about this poem. I don't read it too often, for fear of somehow losing the thing that makes it special :) but maybe once a year or so for the past 5 years, I've found my way back to it. If you have any favorites to share, I'd LOVE to hear about them – if you like this, then I'd say you have pretty great taste too my friend! :D

Exquisite, @allischaaff. So beautiful. I get that same impression of fragility. Love truly is fragile, too, isn't it? Always in danger of being ripped away you... :/

@ButterflyBlu <333 But I believe the love lives on, even after it's gone. <3
