The game of yugioh has lots of different monsters. They have rituals, Xyz, synchro, fusion, pendulum, effect, and lastly, normal monsters. Normal monsters have been the underdog of yugioh since the beginning. They have had good support in the form of cards like 'Rescue Rabbit', 'Justi-Break', and one of my personal favorites, 'Non-Spellcasting Area'. But they never had a true "Boss" monster. Until this guy came out.
First of the dragons is an amazing monster. His only requirements are 2 normal monsters. That would be awesome by itself if it wasn't for a couple other factors.
First of the dragons is... Well obviously, a dragon. This means in a deck centered around him you can use 'Dragons Mirror' to summon him by banishing from the graveyard. He also grants some support from Dragon decks, but Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon cannot revive him. But instead, if you used 'Fusion Substitute' to summon him, just use the second effect for a free draw, recycle First of the Dragons, and then use Darkness Metal to bring back a dragon to use as a material or the First.
But the truly awesome thing about this card is it's effects. "This card cannot be destroyed by battle except by battle with a Normal Monster, and is unaffected by monster effects." This is the only monster that can only be destroyed by a normal monster. Now, realize that "Normal Monster' and 'Non-effect Monster' are completely different. Cards like "Gem-Knight Pearl", as "Gem-Knight Zirconia" are 'non-effect monsters' as they have no printed text. A normal monster has that familiar old school vanilla color to the card, like the Ojama trio (yellow, green, and black), blue-eyes White Dragon, Dark Magician, and Red-Eyes B. Dragon.
Normally anything that is "unaffected" by something can be classified as "broken" or "Exploitable". This card can stand up to lots of cards ranging from "Neo-Spacian Grand Mole", "Snipe Hunter", "Judgment Dragon", and "Madolche Queen Tiaramisu", to Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, Evilswarm Exciton Knight and even the super powerful "Cyber Dragon Infinity"
It's a powerhouse monster that can stand up to almost every Meta Deck card, First of the Dragons is deserving of this praise. Play him if you want, fear him if you choose, but now you can't say you never heard of him.
First of the Dragons is the Card of the Day for October 28th, 2015.
