Love It Or Hate It: Any EDM Fans Out Here?
Welcome to the Funny Community game, Love It Or Hate It! This game is really similar to Monday's 'No Good or So Good' food game - except this one deals a lot more with non-food things. Every week, I highlight a different thing that a lot of people either really love or really hate and see how our community feels overall! Last week, I asked you how you felt about reality TV shows! Out of the 36 who gave your opinion, 23 of you said reality TV is HORRIBLE. Soooo... reality TV has been voted to be NO GOOD!!!!! This week, I want to know: How do you feel about EDM? EDM - otherwise known as Electronic Dance Music - has become bigger and bigger throughout the years - with the highest paid DJ, Calvin Harris, making $66 million last year! However, a lot of people think it is just a lot of blips and beeps and not really much to listen to! How do YOU feel about EDM? Would you say that you LOVE or HATE it? Sound off in the comments below, and I'll post the results next week! Why Are These Kids At A Rave?
The 1990s were a simpler time - at least in the realm of kid birthday parties. You went out for laser tag or group-watched a movie. You had slumber parties or rented the 'party room' at your local roller rink. However, sometime between then and now, Skrillex happened - which brings us to the latest trend in children's birthday parties - KIDDIE RAVES. Introducing CirKiz - it's like that neon EDM-packed post-apocalypse you used to go to in college. But with safer goodie bags. You got your wildin' out, glowstick-wielding white bros. Guy with a cool haircut working the 1's and 2's. The person who's been going hard on fruit punch all night. And the one in the corner, currently regretting the fruit punch. CirKiz was created by some NYC-based, EDM-loving parents - Jesse Sprague and Jenny Song - who wanted to create a special place "where families can listen and dance to DJs, see live performances, and experience a nightclub environment in a safe, controlled daytime setting." Available in both New York and London, parents can choose one of several popular warehouse venues and trendy nightclubs for their CirKiz-sponsored event. One such venue, I was surprised to learn, is Cielo, a New York spot known for hosting some pretty 'high-brow' house and trance DJs. In fact, that's exactly where Jesse and Jenny first came up with their Cirkiz idea: "We had [our son's] 1st birthday party at Cielo. We invited friends with kids and friends without. It was so much fun for everyone we decided to make it an annual event but in different clubs. The message we got from all our friends was clear and consistent: 'You should do this professionally and turn it into a business... I'd pay to go.' So after years of just doing it for fun, we finally got our act together and did exactly that." Currently, CirKiz is hosting a 'winter series' of raves at NYC's Space Ibiza on Sundays, where ticket prices range from $15 - 20 per person. You can check out more details at their official website or you can be like me and just stare at these pictures, feeling equal parts confused and disturbed. With that being said: What do you guys think? Is combining kids and rave culture a good idea or bad idea? Let me know in the comments below. (Also shout-out to the LED robot in this picture up here. For a part-time job, that's - admittedly - rad as hell.)
Who is HIGHLIGHT???
Hey guys. So for a while now there has been talk about Highlight debuting. Most people have no idea who highlight is, how many members are in the group, their ages, what they look like etc. One things for certain............people have been passing on Legendary rookie group..........so you gotta wonder. How good is this group? What do they sound like? Do I know them?..................Well maybe.................possibly...............................ummmmmmmm YES! Do these five guys look familiar? Do you guys remember the band formerly known as Beast/B2St??? http://youtu.be/ZAzWT8mRoR0 http://youtu.be/8JQJ83aFNo8 http://youtu.be/9JWkOTkhpf4 https://youtu.be/PrKvv4o0Ofs ......oh yeah but there was like another right? A sixth member..............Yes there was. Jang Hyunseung. Also apart of the duo Troublemaker. -------------------------- QUICK RUN THROUGH Sadly that sixth member of Beast departed and the explanation we got was differences in music ideas or so. Shortly after this the contracts for all six Beast members and Cube expired. This gave way to other possibilities and the remaining members decided to leave Cube and start their own label. (Around Us) Jang Hyunseung decided to stay and do another contract with Cube. Now that the five had left there was still an issue with the Beast name. Cube had the rights to that name for more years meaning the boys could not promote under that name since they had left Cube. After intense thinking and talking back and forth with Cube the boys decided to give up on the Beast name for the moment and promote under a new name........dundundunduuuuun HIGHLIGHT was born. This name is a song title from the past album. Alrighty now to introduce you to each member of HIGHLIGHT. DO YOU KNOW THEM? Well here are the links for the cards that lead to each member. My Unofficial Official Idol Best Friends
So as Kpop fans, we all know it's healthy to be crazy and delusional with a healthy dose of keep your distance (and maybe a bit of sanity). So excuse my unreasonable rationality on this. (Or maybe it is rational). #healthyimagination Since I have been k-popping it for some time now, I have developed this group of idols I swear I would be best friends with based on their and mines (and my current friends) personality. I'm mean with reason, I have to at least measure the friends I hang out with now to see if I could hang out with these idols? Right? Wrong? Who cares..... So here is my list of best friends starting with my closest one. FYI the stories of our friendship might be a little bit long and totally made up ^^...... First up we have the ever so adorable Baro. Yes B1A4 Baro would be my best friend. In fact, out of all the idols I know (I haven't met any yet) Baro is the one I am closest to and I have known the longest. We can chill talking about music, movies, games, books, and literally anything that comes to mind. We will always be there for each other since nothing is more important to us than our friendship. And all though we love each other, we are reasonable enough to not drop anything we're doing to go running to each other. We will check up on each other to see how the other is doing if we couldn't hang out for awhile. Especially after things like a break up or a relative passing or even issues with our careers creating an identity crisis for us. Visitations are always in order and having/owning a key to the others house/apartment is a requirement. Long story short, I will always be there for him. And he will always be there for me. Seeing that we are both September babies with our birthdays just 5 days apart (Sunwoo on September 5 and me on September 10), we work well together when we set off on any type of project. Of course we would bicker like real siblings, and drive each other crazy. I mean who wouldn't if they have known each other for as long as we have. To top it all off we are super supportive and critical of anything the other does. An example is if either one of us wanted to go down a different career path and wanted to go to school for it. We would weigh out the pros and cons and then we would check the reasoning for said friend embarking in a new direction. (FYI: following the dreams of your idol is not the same as following your own dreams, unless you're the lead female in Playful Kiss starring Kim Hyun Joong and Jung So Min then it is okay because he is your dream and you must follow your dream to the end of the earth and then get married to said dream. Good luck with that!!! ^^) So basically us Virgos will stick together through thick and thin and be the bestest friends forever! Next up on my friends list is the fiercest and most misunderstood (well, one of the most misunderstood) females I know. It's the one and only HYUNA!!!!! For years now my poor friend has been over-sexualized and thus criticized for her over flowing sex appeal. But to be honest, Hyuna is a really sweet girl that loves to party and have fun. At the age of 22/23 we still want to be young and milk our youthful features and figures for all it's worth. Being normal and conservative is overrated and unnecessary. And to be honest, Hyuna is very outspoken (with reason) of what she wants done. I will admit that Hyuna is more attractive than I am. ~(>^~^<)~ But that's cool. Together the two of us have amazing one-on-one girl time. Chatting over our favorite foods and downing all the sweets that we can get. Talking about whose the hottest idol and whether or not we like him and then being upset if the other doesn't agree with us. Of course, we dish details about current boyfriends or crushes and we size up whether the guy is worth the trouble. We spend time window shopping and eventually buying things for each other and ourselves. Since I'm not too big on 'ink' (tattoos), we agree that a charm bracelet unique to the two of us is what we need to identify our friendship to the world. Since Hyuna is older than me (by only 3 months), she gets to obnoxiously play the older sister and act like she knows more than me and is more mature than I am. But to be honest we're both mentally still kids. #kidsatheart #youngforever Over all, Hyuna and I share a unique bond that cannot be shared simply through words but felt whenever we are spotted together. Forever my best friend. Forever my ride-or-die. Forever my twin. Next up on my list of friends is someone you wouldn't have expected. I haven't known her for long but ever since we met, we clicked and that was that. My Goofy/Derpy twin, Hani. As one of her closest friends, I get the privilege to call Hani by her real name Hee Yeon. Together Hee Yeon and I are like two peas in a pod. We're either smart together or we're dumb together. And on the off chance that one of us understands something the other doesn't, we generously explain it. But our slowness is our charm and a charm only we allow ourselves to laugh about. We honestly don't mean to be slow, we just don't catch on to things sometimes. We don't always have slow moments though, there are times we are super into a conversation and know everything we can about it. These said conversations are not always about idols but mainly about things that really interest us; starvation, animal cruelty, third world problems, money and taxes, and ever so often we throw in a good mystery book or drama because we just love our mystery. Over all, you can catch Hee Yeon and I throwing weird faces at each other while taking selfies or wearing matching outfits to show case our unique friendship. Next up is someone everyone needs....... Everyone needs at least one obnoxious friend that you want to beat up but still love and will defend because you know that they are good person. Well that person for me is Ji Hoo. Yup, none other than Block B Zico. This boy loves to mess with me and my love for owls. (I totally have an obsession with owls and have tons of owl jewelry). Every time I call his name (Ji Hoo), he starts echoing me with his own set of 'who who', sounding like an owl. /\(>_<)/\ *angryface* Clever and mean at the same time, Ji Hoo, is the special third inclusion to my Virgo club (starring Me, Sunwoo, and Ji Hoo of course). Ji Hoo always leaves me speechless with the lyrics he writes for his songs and then stunned at how annoying he can be. Same as with Sunwoo (Baro), I argue with this boy like a true sibling and defend him just them same. No one can talk bad about my brother but me (and well his older brother Taewoon of course). Unfortunately Ji Hoo and I get very heated in arguments and refuse to back down. We might spend days not talking to each other but I would eventually give in since I don't know how to keep a grudge (no seriously I don't). In the end, among us Virgos, Sunwoo, Ji Hoo, and I, we have formed our own little click and occasionally hang out together. Our own version of the Three Caballeros or the Three Musketeers. We're not exactly a rough bunch together but we know how to have our own type of fun. Finally my newest adorable and talented friend is Yoda....lol I mean Chanyeol. EXO Chanyeol is a relatively new friend for me but we work well together with our passion for music. The two of us often joke around that we should have known each other when we were young so that our relationship would have more stories to it. And it's true since we already act that way. My Yoda and I are always true to each other and ourselves and the best part of our friendship is our ear for music. Honestly if I were more inclined to when I was younger, I would be a talented pianist and guitarist by now. But even though I'm not I still listen to music faithfully and I can tell whether I like something or not and why. There is always something about the beat not matching the lyrics or the right words or phrase not being used when writing lyrics. And my Yoda confides these things to me among others he trust because he wants to me the best musician he can be. So these are my five. And now I am honestly wondering if any of you other Kpop fans have your own group of idols you want to be friends with. Give it some thought and if you want to, you should post your own story of what your relationship would be. I'm personally asking if @poojas, @PassTheSuga, @MattK95, @jiggzy19, and @aabxo would like to give this story-telling a shot. “If you think anyone is sane you just don't know enough about them.” ― Christopher Moore, Practical Demonkeeping ^^V If you think I'm crazy then your just not sane enough --- @stevieq (Me) ^^V I do not own these photos ㅠ~ㅠ
Celebrity Product Taste Test: Mariah Carey's New "Butterfly" Drink
First, I know what you're thinking, and it's probably "I didn't even know Mariah Carey had her own drink!" I found out from a friend who called specifically to tell me because she knew I would find it amusing. Among my friends, I am known for my notorious soft spot for awkward celebrity-endorsed products, and Mariah's off-brand Vitamin Water - named after her mid-90s album 'Butterfly' - is no real exception. "Who would even buy it?" She laughed, and I could practically hear her cynical eyeroll through the phone. I would. I would buy it. And this morning, I rolled into Walgreens in my pajamas, and I did. And now I am going to taste test this stuff for all of you, judging packaging, price, and taste on a 5-point scale. Because Mariah Carey has a five-octave range, and I'm a clever human being. Anyway. Cue my obligatory Mariah jam, "Up Out My Face", and let's get this started. The Packaging: 3/5 Firstly, being comfortable with going to Walgreens only to buy a 'melodic beverage inspired by the magic of Mariah Carey' was the emotional hurdle you would probably expect. The bottle is covered with butterflies and extremely pink. (So basically, if you really want to embarrass your boyfriend the next time you send him to the grocery store for tampons, make sure you tell him to pick you up a bottle of Butterfly too.) The description on the back of the bottle tells little of the drink's actual flavor, and instead is filled with enough cheesy Mariah metaphors to make you want to quit while you're ahead. And I quote: "BUTTERFLY gives everyone something new to sing about. Let this melodic blend of sophisticated sweetness lift you to your high notes every day that you pamper yourself with a sip of Butterfly inspired by Mariah Carey." It is nice that Mariah was able to find new work for whoever helped her write the script for 'Glitter'. I guess. The Price: 5/5 (99¢ per 16-ounce bottle) While I would probably best compare this drink to Vitamin Water, it actually sells for much cheaper. When I was at Walgreens, it was labeled as 99 cents, but when I went to actually buy it, there was an additional 20 cents taken off when she scanned it. 79 cents for a 16-ounce beverage? (Don't let Mariah's champagne glass in the above picture fool you, this stuff is selling cheaper than bottled water!) The Taste: 2/5 I was pretty thirsty on the ride back home, so while I wanted to wait to try this fairly, I stole a sip while waiting at a red light. THIS DRINK IS SO SWEET. They really weren't kidding when they used the phrase 'sophisticated sweetness'. It tastes like someone melted down a couple bags of strawberry Jolly Ranchers and mixed it into water with that cotton candy body spray I used to wear in junior high. I am already a huge sugar wimp as it is. I usually have to dilute apple juice or lemonade whenever I buy it because it always seems to run too sweet. So the fact that this drink was so much sweeter than normal made my stomach instantly feel a little sick. To its credit, I think some people would like this if it were either heavily diluted or splashed into a sparkling white wine or vodka-based cocktail. I would imagine it would give alcoholic drinks a taste similar to Nuvo. (Not to mention, it's a pretty similar color.) Overall Score: D (66%) This drink is bogus. But I suppose if you're looking for a cheap mixer for your Mariah Carey at the Colosseum pre-gaming party this summer, you're pretty much set.
