Okay, so who isn't celebrating Thanksgiving this year? I heard rumors that people were boycotting the commercial aspect of it, opting for pizza and beer--too hell with the dishes, the not-as-good-as-mom-makes (fill in the blank dish here), the lines, the fever of activity through fingers on mobile devices...et al.
I can't say that I necessarily blame those who are on the brink of a meltdown over the commercialism of the holiday, but it is a great time to be with close friends and family, to cherish our loved ones, and to take a pause from the chaos of life and reflect on our many blessings. (We live in America, one of the most rich countries in the world!)
Whether you're taking a Thanksgiving hiatus or doing the full party circuit this year, warm your heart and soul with an Apple Toddy. This time it's all about the whipped cream! Make it fresh, fresh, fresh! Learn how to make it fresh by clicking here.
1/2 orange, halved
3 cups apple cider
2 cinnamon sticks
Brandy, to taste
Stud the orange halves with cloves. In a medium saucepan, bring the cider, cinnamon and oranges to a simmer. To serve, add a shot of brandy to a cup. Ladle in the hot cider and top with a generous dollop of whipped cream.
Like I said earlier, the update to this toddy is in the whipped cream. @Rodiziketan always stresses the benefits of fresh ingredients. I could not agree more. Therefore, make the whipped cream from scratch--it's easy--and you will have one of the best Thanksgiving's ever, even if it's not in the traditional sort of way!
