It's another full day of fixtures in the UEFA Champions League. Today is highlighted by a fantastic tie between Arsenal and Bayern Munich in Group F.
The pressure will certainly be on for the Gunners as they lost the first two matches of the group stages to dig themselves deep into a hole. Fortunately for them, they managed to beat Munich two weeks ago in the third round to give themselves a chance of advancing.
If they lose this match, it's going to be very difficult for them to qualify for the knockout stages.
They'll be without emerging start Hector Bellerín, who has been one of the standouts of Arsenal's excellent run of form in the past month or so. They find themselves atop the EPL table and will hope that their momentum can carry through to the Champions League. Olivier Giroud is in great form and is beginning to convince people that he might be the right striker for the job. They'll also be without Aaron Ramsey who has missed a run of a few matches and is not expected to return for another two weeks or so.
Bayern have been in tip top form since day 1 of the season. They have won all but 1 match of their 11 in the Bundesliga this year and remain undefeated, atop the table by 5 points.
Striker Robert Lewandowski is making a legitimate claim as the best pure striker in the world, battling for the honor with Luis Suarez in my opinion. But there is quality up and down this team sheet - Bayern could be the deepest squad in the world. It can be remarkable to realize that they can field a team of their backups, many of whom would start at the world's other top clubs. Expect to see Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller feature for the German side with the world's best keeper Manuel Neuer in net trying to keep Arsenal out, something he could not manage two weeks ago as Bayern fell 2-0 (on two lucky goals, I'll admit!)
I like Arsenal, but I think Bayern will be too much to handle, especially playing at home in the Allianz Arena. Arsenal will fight tooth to nail, but Bayern have too much quality and depth with the crowd behind them all the time.
Bayern will win 2-0 as Arsenal falter and come to serious risk of crashing out.
Any thoughts? Can Arsenal put up a fight?
