So here we are at Day 2 of the 100 days of anime challenge. Today's question is again one i had to think about and I actually came up in a tie. Its because these two series influenced my life so much in ways I couldn't fathom at the time but now looking back on it they did help me fall in love with anime even more. They possess similar themes of life, death and redemption which resounded strongly in me.
Rurouni Kenshin Ah...this series. One of my biggest and longest standing anime crushes. This series was a pretty short shounen(by todays standards at least) series that gave me a look into some dark themes about redemption, life and death and if there was truly any way to forgive the past. As you follow Kenshin on his journey to heal after the bloody war where he commited countless acts of murder for the cause he believed in, you really question if all hurts could ever reall heal or if they only just stop bleeding. This series is definitely my favorite to this day.
Fullmetal alchemist/brotherhood, this series stood out in so many ways to me that It made it a hard contender for this question. Its just as intense as Rurouni kenshin if not more. The Elric brothers journey to right their wrongs is bittersweet and wrought with calamities that its hard not to question if the end truly justifies the means. They fight for each other and those they care about and by the time you reach the end you are satisfied, well I was. Both of these series are great in animation for their times and although they are not without flaws, they definitely are my favorites to this day.
