The latest trailer for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight was released by the Weinstein Company recently and it gives a proper introduction to the actual Hateful Eight. One of the most interesting things about this movie is that it looks like most of the film takes place in one setting. And in that way, the film is closer to a play than it is any film before it.
The fact that the film takes place in one location for the majority of the movie, doesn't mean it lacks any artistry. After watching the trailer it looks like Tarantino makes use of this space entirely. I don't know how he did it but even though we're looking at the same cabin a bunch of times, he managed to make each shot look just as interesting (or more interesting) than the last.
I've talked about the way he frames his shots previously (using Inglourious Basterds as an example) and I can't wait to see the interesting ways he frames each shot in this film come December. He's stated numerous times that he's greatly influenced by Akira Kurosawa and I think a lot of that influence will show in this movie more than his previous ones.
The Hateful Eight will be in select theaters on December 25th, 2015 before opening to a wider audience on January 8th, 2016.
