How adorable are these twine lanterns?! And the best part about this DIY project is that it's incredibly easy and cheap to make, but it looks so chic! This DIY tutorial comes from the creative people at Splash of Something.
For this project, you will need:
-- Twine or hemp
-- White glue (4 oz.)
-- 1/2 cup of cornstarch
-- 1/4 cup warm water
-- Petroleum jelly (Vaseline)
-- Clear sealant spray
-- String of lights
You can find the majority of these items at a craft store.
Mix the solution and blow up the balloons
Mix the glue, cornstarch and water in a tub. Make sure you mix it enough so that all of the lumps are gone. Blow up a few balloons all the way.
Dip the twine in the glue solution
Cover the balloons completely with petroleum jelly, so that the balloons will not stick to the twine. Dip the twine in the glue solution and then wrap the damp twine around the balloons a few times, as shown in the picture. Make sure you leave some room at the top of the ball to insert the string of lights. Allow the glue solution on the twine to dry completely. Then, pop the balloons.
Insert string of lights
Spray the entire twine ball with clear sealant spray to seal the glue mixture. Take the string of lights and insert them into the twine ball.
Hang up the twine balls, turn on the lights and enjoy!
