8 years later, Harry Potter is still riling religious extremists.
In the past we have seen an evangelical mom rewrote J.K. Rowling’s novels to get rid of all the annoying magic.
Today a wacky pastor would rather let children die than read or watch Harry Potter.
While speaking at the National Religious Liberties Conference in Des Moines, Iowa, Kevin Swanson said Americans should “repent that Dumbledore emerged as a homosexual mentor for Harry Potter.”
Swanson did't stop there though. He also went after How to Train Your Dragon for having a gay character, and that if his children, ages 6, 7, and 8, watch any of the Harry Potter movies, “it would be better for them that a millstone be hanged around their neck and they be drowned at the bottom of sea.”

A bit extreme, don't you think? I mean, what did Harry Potter do to Ron Swanson?

@allischaaff girl. Yes. They make me Insane. I have a lot of issues with my own faith, simply because of my experiences. I'm angry down deep but that doesn't make it okay to lash out at anyone. I would NEVER threaten any child's life. Why would I ever believe or say something like this about my son?? I must have missed that idea somewhere along the way. >.< @shannonl5 @Straightshooter
Your right @shannonl5. Personally while, as a christian, I may disagree with a lot of what society does and thats great! Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs, but when extremists such as this guy openly threatens others lives is just completely wrong. Thats not what christ wants nor would he want his followers to act like this.
Ugh, and on top of this he probably doesn't understand the value of the books themselves. They are essentially kids fighting evil, what could be more christian than that? It shows real friendship, loyalty, and justice. ugh. I bet he didn't even read the books...
@Straightshooter @ButterflyBlu Absolutely. Ugh crazy people like this get me SO angry. They represent the church in a really terrible way... that's why my least favorite people on the planet will forever be the Westboro Baptist Church
@ButterflyBlu honestly I think someone would have to be really unwell to genuinely believe something like this. I'm appalled that people are willing to give this horrible perspective a platform
