The 5 Strangest Superstition in Sports!
Hello sports fans! It's Friday the 13th! Here are some of the strangest superstitions in sports! Michael Jordan Michael always wore his UNC shorts under his NBA shorts. Thus, he wore longer shorts than his fellow players at that time. In the end however, his fellow players followed suit after the legend. Serena Williams Serena Williams is known for not changing socks once during a tournament. It sucks to wear a pair of socks for more than a day...imagine how it would feel to wear the same socks for an entire tournament! I guess Serena doesn't mind it considering the number of tournaments she has won. Brian Ulracher Brian Ulracher ate two chocolate chip cookies before every game. Maybe that was the secret to his muscular body. I think it'd be fair to call him the "Cookie Monster". Caron Butler Caron Butler was known to be an avid fan of Mountain Dew. He loved the drink so much that he drank before and during every game. During his UNC days, he asked his wife to pick him a 2-L bottle of the green stuff, and drank half of it before the game, and the rest during half-time. In 2007, the Wizards and NBA banned him from drinking it during games so he eventually quit the whole thing in 2009. Moises Alou This one has to be the most f*cked up one out of all of them. Moises Alou used to pee on his own hands to harden them! Should we see that as commitment to the game of baseball or just some pretty weird ass shit? Oh and by the way, don't try to harden your hands by peeing on them ladies and gentlemen, because doctors have confirmed that peeing on your hand doesn't harden them. It actually softens them. @jeff4122 @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @InPlainSight @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @salahabdalla @Moose892 @BrookieyElba @SamuelRodriguez @ValerieAlissaPa @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Jovi @Shippudenguy21 @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @Link4TW @ChriSingularis @sanazsanaz @WilliamBrown @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @TravisBeck @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @gatorchick96 @MatthewBoughton @MarcusJiles @BrandonMcNeil @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @manbungo2000 @DerekGumtow @havic @Straightshooter @PhilAnthony @Kirooken @yaakattackk @RodneyYoung @DreJones @JonathanKerns @bnzattoni @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @smothgreen @afxs @johnnolastname @ChristopherKenn @ChasePage @coreywriley91@MikeWolf @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @BrunoDutch @SherzTYC @krishntejanand @addri @ChrisStephens What was your favorite one from the list? Here's the full MLB playoff schedule
It's playoff time! Who's excited? I know I am - and I bet my fellow baseball fans are too! @mchlyang @christianmordi @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl !! Let's take a look at the Wild Card and NLDS schedule. It all gets started this Tuesday at 8PM ET as Houston travels to the Bronx to face the Yankees. The Yankees could have a tough time with the AL Cy Young frontrunner and 20-game winner, but it should be an intense game one way or the other. Win or go home! In the NL Wild Card, the Cubs face the Pirates in Pittsburgh at 8PM ET on Wednesday. This game also features a likely Cy Young winner, as Jake Arrieta will look to continue his masterful second half and knock out the Cubs' division rivals. After those Wild Card games are settled, we enter into the Division Series. Each series is a 5-game set, with the team with home field advantage playing host in games 1, 2, and 5. Both sets in the National league follow the same schedule of games. New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers St. Louis Cardinals vs. [winner of Pittsburgh vs. Chicago] Game 1 - Friday [@ LA/St. Louis] Game 2 - Saturday [@ LA/St. Louis] Game 3 - Monday [@ NY/Pittsburgh or Chicago] Game 4 - Tuesday [@ NY/Pittsburgh or Chicago] Game 5 - Thursday [@ LA/St. Louis] There's lots of intrigue in the American League, too. Love It Or Hate It: Live Sporting Events?
Welcome to the Funny Community game, Love It Or Hate It! This game is really similar to Monday's 'No Good or So Good' food game - except this one deals a lot more with non-food things. Every week, I highlight a different thing that a lot of people either really love or really hate and see how our community feels overall! Last week, I asked you how you felt about SELFIE STICKS. It was an EXTREMELY tight vote, but out of the 60 who gave your opinion, 33 of you said that they're actually kind of useful! Soooo... SELFIE STICKS WIN!!!! This week, I want to know: How do you feel about attending live sports games? Spectator sports have been around since the days of Ancient Greece, but the ones we know and love today came into being in the mid 19th century! The number of Americans that attend at least one live sporting event annually is easily in the tens of millions. However, the amount of them that find said sporting event COMPLETELY BORING is still widely unknown. How do YOU feel about spectator sports? Are they tons of fun or brutally boring? MLB Top 5 Plays of the Day (10/03/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. DJ Lemahieu (Colorado Rockies) What a diving stop by DJ Lemaihieu! He not only stopped the ball, he threw it on his knees to get the out at first. The Rockies however fell to the Giants 3-2. Nice job DJ! 4. Alexi Amarista (San Diego Padres) That was a great diving catch by the little ninja, Alexi Amarista, as he makes an incredible diving catch. That play robbed Gonzalez's potential double to end the inning. The Padres fell to the Dodgers however, 2-1. 3. Kelby Tomlinson (San Francisco Giants) It was a popup to shallow right and it seemed like it was going to be a lucky base hit. And Tomlinson had a hard time finding the ball and that was understandable as he was going for an overhead catch. He however found the ball while running, and caught the ball to get the out. The Giants beat the Rockies 3-2. 2. George Springer (Houston Astros) The ball was hit deep right, but Springer was there to make the diving catch. If that ball went by, it was easily extra bases. Thus, it was simply an enormous play by Springer to keep the Astros in lead. The Astros beat the Diamondbacks 6-2. 1. Carlos Perez & Erick Aybar (Los Angeles Angels) The Rangers needed one more win to clinch the division title, but the Angels were not going to give up that easily, especially because the Angels are one game behind the Astros for that last Wild Card spot. They were down 10-6 but showed once again that the game ain't over till it's over. The Angels scored five runs in the top of the ninth to turn the game around, 11-10. And, with that throw by Perez, Aybar tagged Andrus and got him out to end the game to add another win to their season as they inch closer to that Wild Card spot. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! What was your favorite play of the day? @christianmordi @jeff4122 @ljk901023 @TessStevens @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @jokes @DonnaMelton @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @SamuelRodriguez @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Shippudenguy21 *If you guys would like to be tagged every time I upload a Top 5 Plays of the Day card, please let me know by commenting on the comments section below!
MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/30/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Jason Heyward (St. Louis Cardinals) It was a fly ball to deep right field. The ball was hit pretty hard so Jason Heyward did not have a chance to see and "feel" where the fence was. Well, he wasn't definitely scared of the fence, but he did hesitate a bit. Nonetheless, the Cardinals' right fielder leaped and made the catch against the fence. The Cardinals crushed the Pirates 11-1 and not only won their 100th game this season, they also clinched the NL Central division title! Congrats Cardinals fans! 4. Kole Calhoun (Los Angeles Angels) Mike Trout is not the only outfielder that the Angels have and Kole Calhoun was going to let people know it for sure before the season was over. The ball was hit deep right in between Trout and Calhoun. Calhoun had a quick start to the ball, dived for it to rob a potential double from Vogt. The Angels however lost to the A's 8-7. 3. Carlos Gomez (Houston Astros) This one's for @jeff4122! It is the bottom of the ninth with the tying runner at first. Franklin Gutiérrez hit one strongly to center field, but Carlos Gomez was positioned himself perfectly to catch the ball. He wasn't satisfied though. He saw pinch runner James Jones and threw a laser beam to first. And the result? Gomez made a perfect double play to end the game and lead the Astros to a 7-6 victory over the Mariners. 2. Starlin Castro (Chicago Cubs) Starlin Castro makes the list again. We have seen some incredible plays from him all season long and he proved himself once again with this amazing play, where he dived, and threw a perfect ball to first on his knees to get the out. The Cubs hung on for the race for home advantage in the NL Wild Card game as they crushed the Cincinnati Reds, 10-3. 1. Kevin Kiermaier (Tampa Bay Rays) And finally, our top play of the day comes from Kevin Kiermaier of the Tampa Bay Rays! Dietrich shot one deep to center field for a potential double...or even a triple! But Kiermaier followed the ball and never took his eyes off of it. He turned around, timed his jump perfectly, and caught the ball. He also ran into the fence after he made the catch, but whatever. He made it to the top of the list! The Rays beat the Marlins 6-4 in this one. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! What was your favorite play of the day? @christianmordi @jeff4122 @ljk901023 @TessStevens @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @jokes @DonnaMelton @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @SamuelRodriguez @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado *If you guys would like to be tagged every time I upload a Top 5 Plays of the Day card, please let me know by commenting on the comments section below!
MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/17/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Salvador Perez (Kansas City Royals) Was Salvador Perez a shortstop? You definitely don't see that too often with catchers! Perez calls off Yordano Ventura, catches the ball barehand, and guns one down first to get the out. What a play by Salvador Perez, the catcher for the Kansas City Royals! Yes, a catcher! Kansas beat Cleveland 8-4. 4. Adam Jones (Baltimore Orioles) Runners on first and second. But if you have Adam Jones in center, he is not going to let you score two runs when a ball's hit towards him. He makes an amazing catch, rolls over, and saves two runs! Oh right. He also ended that inning with his catch. The Orioles beat the Rays 4-3, thanks to Jones's amazing catch. 3. Torii Hunter (Minnesota Twins) Who said Torri Hunter is the old guy on the Twins? He still has some game left in him. He sprints for the ball, slides beautifully onto the warning track, and makes the catch. What a play by the forty year old veteran outfielder! The Twins however fall to the Angels 11-8. 2. Francisco Lindor (Cleveland Indians) He makes the list again, this time with a second place-caliber play! It's hit sharply to short, but Francisco Lindor is there to make the diving, backhanded catch and makes the throw to first. Frankie Lindor with the run saving play, but unfortunately, the Indians fall to the Royals 8-4. 1. Carlos Correa (Houston Astros) There comes the shift for Prince Fielder. Correa is on the right side of second base as he gets ready to grab that grounder from Fielder. However, pitcher Lance McCullers reaches for the ball, but it bounces off McCullers's glove. Correa wasn't expecting it but reacts quickly to catch the ball on his knees, and makes a perfect throw to first to get Fielder out at first. The Astros however falls to division rival Rangers 8-2. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! What was your favorite play of the day? @christianmordi @jeff4122 @ljk901023 @TessStevens @ButterflyBlu *If you guys would like to be tagged every time I upload a Top 5 Plays of the Day card, please let me know by commenting on the comments section below!
I'm Ashamed of My Hometown
San Diego, get your shit together. Each year at the Padres stadium, Petco Park, the LGBT society in SD holds an event called "Out at the Park" that is meant to bring the community together for an evening of baseball. This year, Petco Park really, really screwed up. The San Diego Men's Gay Chorus was meant to sing the national anthem before the game to represent the LGBT community for this event. Their voices were never heard. The stadium let them take the field, and then as they were about to sing, a recorded female voice instead sang the anthem (which, if you've been to a Padres game, isn't something that happens - we always have live singing) The men had to walk off the field hearing people shouting profane, homophobic things at them. The Padres said it was a mistake, a technical error, a third party contractor, and that they were sorry. But that doesn't explain the other examples of mistreatment. Days prior to the game, the Padres organization told the performers that the chorus would have to pay for their tickets in order to sing. This is not something that happens, ever. If you perform the national anthem, you get to enter the park for free, DUH. Why did the Padres suddenly want this now? That would have cost the small organization thousands of dollars, and after dispute they were finally allowed in as performers. You can listen to their great voices here when they performed in 2015. It's a pity their voices weren't heard this year. Get it together Padres, you're a disappointment in baseball but don't be a disappointment to your entire community.
