Not everyone can handle historical dramas for the obvious reasons: the hanboks, the funny hats, the weird sounding Korean language, etc.
I'm hoping this list will give you a safe place to begin because historical dramas are wonderful!! @kpopandkimchi, do you agree?

Hong Gil Dong

A band of thieves similar to Robin Hood lead by the illegitimate and banished son of a noble. He's wonderful. He falls in love with a really quirky girl who was raised by her grandfather and is good at fighting. This drama has family drama, birth secrets, war, and most importantly LOVE!
Jang Geun Suk is the second lead in this drama which makes my heart happy (I don't like him!) But this drama will have you in tears

Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love

Listen, Yoo Ah In is the love of my life in Kdrama world. He can do NO wrong!
This drama is excellent. The beautiful King of Joseon falls in love with a dress maker and their love is ZOMG!! So many things try to come between them but their love endures through many obstacles. You will have major second lead syndrome and you will cry at the end--promise.

The Moon that Embraces the Sun

Who doesn't love Kim Soo Hyun? He's beautiful and stoic, gentle and fierce in this drama. The child actors who play their younger selves in this drama are phenomenal. As children they are engaged to be married then something happens that keeps them apart. Their struggle to get back to each other is wonderful. Hope you're not scared of ghosts!!
Moon That Embraces the Sun is high on my list because of Soo Hyun :)
@kpopandkimchi he's so good.
