Tokya Ghoul: Tsukiyama Shuu
I'll be honest, Tsukiyama Shuu was not one of my favorite characters to start with. But after I took the time to analyze him, I know understand why he is the way he is, and he is now one of my favorites in Tokyo Ghoul! ♡
To start, Tsukiyama has a very flamboyant, larger than life presence: he wears ridiculous suits and sprinkles his vocabulary with French phrases. On the other hand he is a dangerous deviant: the infamous "Gourmet" ghoul, whose appetite leads to an unhealthy obsession with the main protagonist Kaneki Ken. The manga manages a balance between these two facets of Tsukiyama's personality and subtly develops him into one of the most nuanced and sympathetic characters in the series.  In fact, as the series progresses, it's evident that Tsukiyama's declared appetite for Kaneki's flesh is anything but: he doesn't hunger for food, but instead affection and friendship.  It's Tsukiyama who names himself as Kaneki's protector; it's Tsukiyama who suffers an absolute (and possibly life-threatening) breakdown in the wake of Kaneki's departure. And I absolutely love that character development. At first I thought he was down right creepy, but seeing that he actually might love Kaneki. I even believe Tsukiyama Shuu is bi/pansexual since he expresses love for all body types.

Okay now the anime completely ruins the image of Tsukiyama Shuu

The problem with the anime in a nutshell is this: in their desperation to make Tsukiyama an amusing figure, they annihilate the subtext present in the manga and reduce him to a French-spewing caricature.

Now what are your thoughts on Tsukiyama Shuu from Tokyo Ghoul?
