Earlier this week, I found out that this week marks the 25th anniversary of the 'Home Alone' movie. Yes, 25 years ago was a time before the Talkboy, a time before the iconic Kevin McAllister scream face, and well, a time before "Keep the change, ya filthy animal." (Imagine - there was a time when that phrase WASN'T relevant!)

To commemorate the anniversary of this classic holiday film, today's Five Funny Facts theme is the original 'Home Alone' movie. Let's learn something new, shall we?

"Buzz, your girlfriend. Woof."

The famous picture of Buzz's girlfriend is actually a picture of art director Dan Webster's son done up to look like a girl. (You know, hence the 'woof'-ness.) The film's director, Chris Columbus, felt that it would'e been a little too harsh to use an ACTUAL girl's picture.

A 'Home Alone' Without Old Man Marley?

Perhaps one of the most moving parts of the original 'Home Alone' movie is when Kevin and Old Man Marley are able to create a bond after a full movie's length of misunderstanding. Can you believe that the Old Man Marley character wasn't even in the original screenplay?

A Criminal Recast?

'Home Alone' was able to bring 'Goodfellas' star Joe Pesci out of the mafia genre and into the world of family comedies. But did you know that his character - house burglar Harry - was originally supposed to be played by Robert De Niro? That is, until Robert turned the role down.

Dads, Dads, and More Dads

In fact, speaking of what could've been, check out the roster of A-Listers who auditioned to play Kevin's Dad: Michael Douglas, Kevin Costner, Martin Sheen, Dan Aykroyd, John Travolta, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, Sean Penn, Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone, Christopher Lloyd, Dennis Quaid, and Jack Nicholson.
I'm sorry, Chevy Chase, but don't you have your OWN Christmas movie?

Famous Real Estate?

The McAllister house continues to be a popular tourist attraction in Winnetka, Illinois, despite still being a private family residence. The 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom house is currently estimated to be worth nearly $2.5 million dollars.

I hope you appreciated these five facts about 'Home Alone'. Let me know about YOUR favorite memories about the movie in the comments below!
