Here we go again. another day, another Studio Ghibli movie review. X3 Actually what is interesting about this film is that Goro Miyazaki, Hayao Miyazaki's son, directed it, and Hayao Miyazaki scripted the movie.
From Up On Poppy Hill is set in the Yokohama, Japan in 1963. Japan is getting back on its feet after the Korean War. Umi Matsuzaki is a high schooler who take cares of her siblings and the renters in her grandmother's house. She takes on a lot of responsibility after her father passed away in the war and her mother is in America studying.
Shun Kazama, another high schooler, is the student no one could forget. He is the top producer of the school newspaper. He writes a poem to the girl who raises the flags everyday (Umi Matsuzaki). He is a brave and determined individual who will fight for what he believes in.
The Quartier Latin is a clubhouse where many of the clubs are housed. The school wants to tear down the building and replace with a new one. Shun and Umi and the other clubs renovate the building and in hope to impress the chairperson to keep the building. And they do!!
These two first weren't sure how they felt about each other, but as the movie progresses, they fall in love.
Once again, Studio Ghibli does a marvelous job on the art! Also the musical soundtrack is beautiful as well! X3 this was a beautiful masterpiece that moves the heart. Comment below about how you felt about the movie. Did you like it or did you not like it?
Thank you tbell2
Absolutely love it. I've wanted it many times.
@szewwy yeah its really awesome! c: I agree with you completely!
I loved the movie, I really liked the soundtrack (I live all of ghibli's soundtracks) and I'm a fan of using a large cast like with all the boys in the clubhouse. I thought they were funny.
That clubhouse has great architecture from the inside. Also, good movie, mew.
