PSG - "Je Suis Paris"

About ten days after the terrorist attack in Paris, the French capital's soccer team, Paris Saint-German decided to drop their Fly Emirates sponsor logo.

And instead, for the next to games they play (their Champions League match against Malmo on Wednesday and the home match against Troyes during the weekend), they will support a uniform kit with the words, "Je Suis Paris", which means "I am Paris".

This is true class from the defending champ of the French League One and the airline, Emirates.

In my opinion, it's crucial to make this gesture in order to respect and honor the innocent lives that were taken from the terrorist attack.

Je Suis Paris!

Just wanted to share this heartwarming story with my sports fans!

What a classy gesture! This is perfect for the best football club in France.
@ButterflyBlu Yes! It's good to know that sports isn't always about making money!
@jeff4122 I'm glad PSG did this. It's symbolic that French champion is doing this.

Champions League Preview: Real Madrid vs. PSG
The Champions League is back! Today's matches are highlighted by a great showdown between La Liga's Real Madrid and Ligue 1's Paris St. Germain. The teams are tied atop the Group A table with 7 points and both teams look likely to move on to the knockout rounds when it's all said and done. That said, they are fighting for the vital top spot which will decide who they play in the first knockout stage. They may both move on, but this is a hugely important match. With the match taking place at the Santiago de Bernabeu in Madrid, Los Blancos surely have the advantage. Many would consider them the better team anyway, but with the added advantage of a home crowd, Madrid are certainly hopeful. They are boosted by the return of goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who has played great this season in his first as Madrid's #1 keeper, plus midfielder James Rodriguez and defender Sergio Ramos. However, they will be without normal starters Gareth Bale, Álvaro Arbeloa, and Karim Benzema. Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the lines for Los Madridistas as they look to take an advantage into the final dates of the Group Stages. For PSG, the main storyline is the return of winger Ángel di Maria to Madrid, where he spent several years growing and developing his game to the highest level. Di Maria left Madrid two seasons ago to join Manchester United, where he flopped famously. He moved on to Paris this summer and has looked great in the early stages and will surely want to prove to Madrid that they were wrong to sell him. David Luiz looks set to return after a few matches out for PSG and he will rejoin Thiago Silva at center back, making one of the most dominant pairings in all of the world. Javier Pastore and Marquinhos will not be ready to face Madrid today and PSG will have to manage without them. One of my favorite players in the world is Marco Verratti, a sensational young midfielder who is making a serious name for himself around the world. He is constantly linked with the truly massive clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid and is one of the key cogs in PSG's great form this season, as they are leading Ligue 1 by 10 points after just 12 matches. This form will have them confident that they can steal some points in what is sure to be a hotly contested affair. Predictions Despite Madrid being at home, I love the form that PSG enter the match with. While I don't think they will run away with it, I expect this to be a great match with some real end-to-end action. PSG are making a claim to be considered as one of the world's top 5 clubs and this is a great chance for them to improve that case. With Madrid at home, PSG will be cautious to commit too many men to attack. With that said, I think they can get a goal or two and make this a real challenge for Madrid. I'm saying it's going to be a game with goals. 2-2, the final. What do you think? Can PSG steal points in Spain or will Madrid do their job and walk away with a lead in Group A? @InPlainSight @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @MarcusJiles @DerekGumtow @havic @yaakattackk @bnzattoni
Uruguay v England: Rooney to prove his worth in favoured role
England simply must beat Uruguay to keep qualification in their own hands and while Three Lions fans’ nerves are jangling history suggests Roy’s boys should do the business against the South Americans. Being a European nation England play an admittedly limited amount of football against South American opponents but a look back at the last 20 games shows that we have rarely struggled against the likes of Uruguay. drow last names In the last 20 games against sides from South America England have lost just three, drawn five and won 12 times including against Brazil, Argentina and indeed Uruguay. True, most of these games have been of the friendly variety but England’s World Cup record against South Americans also provides encouraging reading with three wins, one draw and just one defeat – to Brazil. So with the stats suggesting reasons to be confident here are three solid bets for the crunch game. Wayne Rooney to score first @ 6/1 Wazza’s form has been the source of much debate and having never scored a goal at a World Cup finals this one is a bit of a Gut Truster pick. However, the Manchester United man is England’s all-time leading World Cup goal scorer when qualification games are included and after being restored to his favoured central position has never had a better opportunity to shine. We’re backing Wayne to fire us to glory and at 6/1 to open the scoring you should too! Over 2.5 goals to be scored @ 21/20 England will concede, they always do, so any win is likely to need at least two goals from the Three Lions, especially with Luis Suarez likely to be restored to Uruguay’s starting XI. Games involving England and South American rivals are often high-scoring affairs with 20 goals recorded in the last six meetings and an average of 2.85 over the last 20 games. England to win 2-1 @ 9/1 Just six of the last 20 games where England have played a team from South America have seen any side record a victory by more than one goal. So, if you’re backing Uruguay to score – and you should be as they’ve netted in 19 of their last 19 fixtures – then 2-1 looks the most likely result if England are to win, making 9/1 simply too good to turn down. What's with the Chinese football league?
There's something strange happening in the football world right now. Even with all the money and appeal that the world's top leagues bring - the EPL, La Liga, Germany's Bundesliga, France's Ligue 1 and Italy's Serie A, some top players have recently departed their clubs and gone to accept enormous contracts in the Chinese Super League. The latest star to make the move is Chelsea's Ramires, a player at the peak of his career at age 28. I'm stunned. There is a history of great players making the move to China, but in the past it has been players at the very tail end of their careers moving across the world to make huge amounts of money before they retire. Think Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, who in recent years went to Shanghai to play. And I understand the appeal for an aging player. Someone like Drogba couldn't keep up with the pace of the top European leagues anymore, but could still be a huge star in China, where the league quality is extremely low. They are major marketing moves for the Chinese teams too, who can bring in world superstars to boost their image. But recently, the players making the move have not been aging stars. They are players in the prime of their careers, like Chelsea's Ramires. Other players to recently make the move are Roma's Gervinho (formerly of Arsenal), who is just 28 years old and Colombia and Inter Milan's Freddy Guarin, a young midfielder of enormous quality and potential. He has been on the radar of the top EPL clubs for years, and to see him turn them down in exchange for a move to the low-level China league is shocking. Alessandro Diamanti, Momo Sissokho, Demba Ba and Paulinho are other players who have recently moved from their European clubs to play in China under huge contracts. It's a bizarre phenomenon. Football in China is not known to be a very popular sport, but the Chinese owners have loads of money and are doing a good job convincing top players to come and join them. I'm sad to see exciting players like Ramires and Gervinho leave Europe, where I could watch them in the Champions League, but I'm fascinated to see what they will make of themselves in China, and to follow along to see if the Chinese league continues to pry away great talent from Europe. @InPlainSight @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @MarcusJiles @DerekGumtow @havic @yaakattackk @bnzatton @SherzTYCi @krishntejanand @addri @mishthi @andwas @NimishMathur @Sydsocquet @starli @kyleatekwana @BenjiPhilip @Eduardo14 @AshfakEjaaz @EmanueleYagoda @Bobs What do you make of this recent trend?
Champions League Review
With half of Match Day 6 in the books for the UEFA Champions League, half of the groups have been decided. Here's how it all went down on Tuesday. Group A - Real Madrid, Paris SG advance This group was never really in doubt, as it seemed a formality that big boys Madrid and PSG would advance ahead of Sweden's Malmo and pesky Shakhtar from Ukraine. Madrid finished the group in fine style with an 8-0 victory over the Swedes thanks to hat tricks by Ronaldo AND Benzema, while PSG beat Shakhtar 2-0. Group B - Wolfsburg, PSV Eindhoven advance Group B brought a true shock, as Wolfsburg beat United 2-1 to advance alongside the Dutch side PSV and send United packing. The Red Devils never really put in a complete performance in the Champions League and they paid the ultimate price, as they now enter the Euro League having finished third in the group ahead of CSKA Moscow. It's a huge disappointment for Louis van Gaal but you have to take your hat off to the Germans and PSV who fought hard and deserved to advance. Group C - Atlético Madrid, Benfica advance Atlético Madrid are one of the most consistent sides in Europe and they showed it in the group stages, losing just one match of six and finishing top in their group. They beat Benfica 2-1 today to earn the top spot. They are always a fun team to watch and I'm happy to see them advance. Galatasary finish third to enter the Euro League while Astana from Kazakhstan's dream ends here. Group D - Man City, Juventus advance Again, no real surprise here as both of these teams were heavily favored over Sevilla and Monchengladbach. City wrapped up the top spot in the group today with a 4-2 win over the German side thanks to two goals from Raheem Sterling, while Juventus lost 1-0 to Sevilla to finish second. The Italians will be disappointed to let the top spot slip away as they will not have a more difficult first round in the knockout stage, but they have only themselves to blame. What's the biggest surprise to you? Did you watch any of the matches?

Man City Trophy Specials: Citizens 22/1 for success at home and abroad
Manuel Pellegrini’s first season in English football proved to be a rather successful one after his Manchester City side claimed a Premier League and Capital One Cup double. And with Pellegrini wasting no time in reinforcing his squad with the likes of midfielder Fernando, defender BacarySagna and goalkeeper Willy Caballero the Citizens look in good shape to claim yet more silverware. dnd drow names The Premier League champions are as short as 8/15 to win any major trophy (excluding the Community Shield) during this campaign and with City addressing their perceived defensive weakness last season, they look a good bet to fill the trophy cabinet up again during the upcoming term. A case for the defence Former Arsenal star Sagna is already through the Etihad Stadium door and he could be joined by his international colleague EliaquimMangala, if reports are to be believed. Captain Vincent Kompany is the best defender in England’s top flight but he is yet to have a partner at the heart of the defence who is even close to his standard. With Sagna, who can also play centre-back, and Mangala in their ranks City could well be on for a repeat of last season with a Premier League and League Cup double priced at 12/1. City, who are 15/8 joint-favourites for the title, cannot be written off claiming a third Premier League win in four years and after claiming the FA Cup back in 2011, the Etihad faithful will be keen to lift the famous old trophy once again. A league and FA Cup double is also priced at 12/1 with a domestic treble, something that has never been achieved in England, is available at odds of 50/1. City managers judged on European performance But as Roberto Mancini can attest to, Manchester City managers are judged by how their sides get on in European competition and Pellegrini will be looking to go past the last-16 this time around. A Lionel Messi-inspired Barcelona knocked the Citizens out of Europe last season but if the Chilean manager can keep Sergio Aguero fit and get strikers Eden Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo firing in tandem there is no reason the Sky Blues can’t go all the way at 10/1. City for the quadruple? City are priced at 22/1 to claim Premier League and Champions League glory, while the confident City fan may want to have a punt on a league, FA Cup and European Cup treble (100/1) being celebrated come May next year. But if you see no weakness in this season’s current crop in the sky blue shirt then back Pellegrini’s men for an unprecedented quadruple (Premier League – FA Cup – Capital One Cup – Champions League) at odds of 500/1. Champions League fixtures released!
The fixtures for the Last 16 of the Champions League have been released! Here are the highlight match ups. PSG - Chelsea Two teams that have met lots of times in the Champions League in recent years. Chelsea will be fighting hard in the league and may be low on energy. PSG will have already wrapped up their Ligue 1 title and will be able to focus on progressing. The pick: PSG. Arsenal vs. Barcelona Arsenal earn the toughest draw of all, playing against the near-perfect team that is Barcelona. It's going to be very difficult for them to beat Barcelona on a home-home aggregate. I don't see them pulling it off. The pick: Barcelona. Juventus vs. Bayern Munich This is the real gem of the Round of 16 match ups. Juventus pay the price for failing to finish first in their group and have to play Bayern, while Bayern get the toughest of the second-place teams in Juventus, who were finalists last year. The pick: Bayern. Gent vs. Wolfsburg I love it when two of the lower teams are matched up against one another, as it guarantees that we'll see one of these teams in the Last 8. Gent are a real miracle story after beating Valencia to the last 16 in the group, but I'm not sure they can beat Wolfsburg, who are playing well in Germany and in Europe. The pick: Wolfsburg. The other matches in the Round of 16 include: Real Madrid vs. Roma Benfica vs. Zenit PSV vs. Atlético Madrid Dynamo Kiev vs. Manchester City But the ones I've outlined above are the real standouts. Those are the matches to look forward to. The Round of 16 will be played on February 16, 17, 23, 24, and March 8, 9, 15, and 16. We've got a long time until then and form could easily change - I'll revisit these predictions when the time gets closer! Are you looking forward to the matches? @InPlainSight @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @MarcusJiles @DerekGumtow @havic @yaakattackk @bnzatton @SherzTYCi @krishntejanand @addri @mishthi @andwas @NimishMathur @Sydsocquet @starli @kyleatekwana @BenjiPhilip @Eduardo14 @AshfakEjaaz @EmanueleYagoda
