Herbs have been used for thousands of years for overall health and for many ailments, I've learned nature literally has a cure for everything! This doesn't mean there aren't times when prescription medication is needed, but I avoid it when i can and opt for natures cures. My mother was always interested in learning about natural remedies so I began studying them and using them in my daily life also. Unfortunately I also inherited some of her chronic pain issues and learned the hard way how addicting and over powering prescription pain medications can be. So after that ordeal I set out to find natural ways to cope with pain that are also beneficial to health as well. Pain is something we all must deal with from time to time, some more then others. And it truly affects your quality of life, so I wanted to share what I have found to be the most helpful herbs for different types of pain.
Cayenne Fruit-Cayenne is amazing for many types of pain, you will see its main compound capsicum in many over the counter creams for pain. When taken internally it also helps relieve pain, plus has many health benefits. Its packed full of vitamins A and E and has also been used for digestive problems, weight loss, poor circulation and much more. As with most herbs it is a good source of anti-oxidants, getting rid of those bad free radicals in your body that cause illnesses and cancer.
Turmeric-The main compound in tumeric is curcumin and it is a strong anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. It works well for many types of arthritis, and in one study it was said to be as effective as ibprofin for inflammation and pain. It is also a strong antioxidant and is said to help prevent cancer. It is also good for brain function and may prevent Alzheimer's disease. It has many more health benefits as well and is one of my go to herbs for pain relief.
Nettles-The stinging nettle is another anti-inflammatory that has been shown to work well for pain, especially osteoarthritis. It is used as a blood purifier, and to treat painful muscles and joints. Also used for anemia and much more. It can interact with medications such as blood thinners so as with the rest of these you should check with your doctor if you have any health issues or take any medications.
Kratom-This can be controversial, it is illegal in a few states but chronic pain sufferers swear by it. It works on the same receptors as pain medication, so it has be used effectively for opiate withdrawal. It works wonders for pain relief, and enhances the immune system, I find it to be a great alternative to taking prescription pain pills all the time. It is a leaf that is native to Thailand and cambodia and has been used for many years for its pain relieving properties. It has much less side effects then prescription medications and I have found it to be one of the most effective natural cures for pain. Some people abuse this for a legal high which has given it a bad rap, but it is great for those who truly need help with pain management.
These remedies may not be for everyone, some herbs can interact with prescription medications and everyone will react differently to them. But if you are having chronic pain and are interested I would suggest doing a little research to see what may work best for you.
