(Why anime?) Anime-Production Studios; Who & Why?
An anime has credit that needs to go somewhere, right?
It could be because of the amazing art-style and vibrant colours that blew your mind.
Or it could be because of the portrayals and voice-acting of the characters that made the experience much more real and human.
Or it could be because of that amazing OSTs that can send shivers down your spine everytime you hear the melody of a song.
Or it could simply be because of the incredible story and how it was executed through the eyes of the director.
And maybe, it is all of the above.
Anyways, someone (or a whole team) made the anime. And many of these names are well-known in the industry. Some have their trademark details that separates themselves from the rest while some enjoy being one with the crowd.
Which ones should you like and why?
Let's start off with the biggest and most infamous one of them all:

A-1 Pictures

A-1 has had a pretty controversial track-record ever since it took the studio on the spotlight with their most famous show "Sword Art Online". High in budget and high in profit, A-1 as been subjected to alot of critisism due to that the studio seems to focus on what could be considered as generic and easy to make and easier to copy. As the same with "Sword Art Online", there are those who love A-1 and those who hate it. There are reasons that validate both sides of the spectrum but considering that they've gotten alot of praise from shows like:
- Sword Art Online
- Fairy Tail
- Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (especially polarized)
- Black Butler
- AnoHana
These are shows that have a general positive feedback and are great examples of what A-1 can accomplish.
So, if you want popular shows and a great variety and quantity of them, with ok-to-great stories and feedback, A-1 Pictures is for you!
Onwards to the next and highly praised one:

Madhouse

Considered to be one of the best (if not THE best) production team in the industry, Madhouse as again and again proven themselves worthy their audience in more ways than one. With too many icons to count, Madhouse stays in the loop by surprising its audience with unique art-styles, original stories and puts therefore in a hefty amount of effort into each and every show they make.
That leads themselves to having just a fewer shows than most on their trackrecord:
- Death Note (yes. THEY made Death Note!)
- No Game No Life
- Hunter X Hunter
- Death Parade
- ONE PUNCH MAN!
These are the shows that ALL are above an overall score of 8 on MyAnimeList and are the perfect examples of not only the capabilities of Madhouse, but anime itself. So, if you want the best of the best, Madhouse gotcha covered!
Now, to the "twin" of A-1 Pictures:

J.C.Staff

Being the other side of the "generic"-coin (the other half being A-1), J.C. has gotten praise and hate depending on
which show you are referring to. But, there's no denying that J.C. makes anime within every category and with great results. Often holding themselves towards the "Highschool"-setting, what kind of Highschool they portray is however a different kind of story. Sometimes, you'll find that one off-shot that'll either be your hidden gem or just a generic money-maker. Notable shows include:
- Toradora!
- Shakugan no Shana
- Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
- Shokugeki no Souma (Best. Period.)
- Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka
These are J.C.Staff's most popular ones with good reason and are often considered as a great alternative
towards A-1 Pictures in terms of popularity and value. That's J.C.Staff for ya!
Now, to something completely different:

Studio Ghibli

With heavy names such as Hayao Miyazaki and Ghibli itself, the Studio has taken the anime and the world by
storm with its innovative, amazing and very often captivating and deep stories that has been followed with a unique art-style that could only be considered as "original". Having basically every anime-viewer behind
its back and full support, their full-length films are not only considered as masterpieces on their own but have been praised and hailed as equally great outside the anime community.
These are only a few examples:
- Spirited Away (the ONLY anime to ever achieve an Oscar)
- Howl's Moving Castle (Oscar-nominee)
- My Neighbour Totoro
- Kiki's Delivery Service
- Ponyo on the Cliff of the Sea
So, if you want REAL masterpieces, there's simply one option to go. With their long history as a studio, you
can count on that there is something at least for you.
Now, let's move on to a fairly consistent and great animation studio:

Bones

Bones is really the bones of the anime-industry, since they've made original anime that stretch from historical to the very best action. Having a neutral affect on the community, their shows are often seen as a warm welcome towards and are often seen and hailed to be great and there are no hit and misses on this one:
- Fullmetal Alchemist/FMA: Brotherhood (yes, they made the original FMA and the epic FMA:B)
- Darker than Black
- Gosick
- Zetsuen no Tempest
- Noragami
If you want a safe bet, Bones is here for you (with FMA:B ;).
We have a very teen-melodramatically-focused studio as well:

P.A. has brought some original stories along with their semi-trademark and often recognisable art-style with a more modern look on shows are percieved as and basically all their characters are teenagers. More specifically, high-schoolers. The shows that P.A. often brings to the table feature some heavy emotion and character-driven story:
- Angel Beats!
- Nagi no Asukara
- Another
- Charlotte
- Hanasaku Iroha
Here, again, a safe bet
And that'll be it!
Of course, I have overlooked other production studios and of course, there are many other shows that each and every production studio can offer and yes, my own description of each mentioned production studio are generalised and are drawn from my own experience from these studios.
There are sooooo many other production-studios, like Shaft (with their -gatari series) and Trigger (the creators of Kill la Kill) and more than often, several studios collaborate and make a great anime together, often under a collective studio such as Aniplex and FUNimation.
Now, this Card is a part of my own series where I put up more anime-related posts such as discussing, analyzing and showing you parts of Anime that makes an Anime an Anime! wow, this was awesome @VoidX!!! Thank you @tbell2 , for hitting me up! It was really interesting to learn about production studios, as I'd never really thought about them before. And cool to learn what studios made what anime! Some of my absolute favorites are in there (FT, Noragami), and neat to know what others were made by the same people!! Oh, and I never knew Spirited Away earned an Oscar! that is so freakin cool!!!! Thank you again for broadening my understanding of something that means so much to me. @VoidX!
