Genre: Martial Arts & Shounen

The action story is set in Edo-era Tokyo in the early 1700s. The eighth shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune ordered boxes to be installed so commoners can submit their thoughts. After hearing their voices, the shogun creates a new magistrate unit—Mushibugyou—to protect the people in the heart of the city. Each member is a specialist with unique fighting skills.

Status: Completed (26 Episodes + 2 OVA)

First of all "Mushibugyo" means "Insect Magistrate". When I watched it, I felt as if I had gone back in time to the good old times because this is another anime that's very similar to Naruto and One Piece where your protagonist has that charm to attract everyone towards them. The Mushibugyo defends Edo and fights a horde of massive, in both size and numbers, of insects. Also, the second half becomes even more interesting as "Mushibito" (Insect People) appear and oh man it's epic!

I have to say the protagonist "Jinbei" is what makes the anime so enjoyable. He's your charming honorable samurai who wants to become the strongest just like Naruto and Luffy (nothing new there). However, the supporting characters do a hell of a job backing Jinbei, and there are so many of them, allies and enemies. Not only that, but the character development is on point in here with each and every character. The variety of the characters will be another reason to love the anime even more.

The sound in the anime is pretty good. The voice acting is great, sound effects do a splendid job at backing the scene and the soundtracks are really catchy. As a guy who loves anime music, I was delighted by the soundtracks in the anime specially the 2nd opening (If you want to listen to it, click here). As for the first opening, is more of a cultural preference as it's J-Rock heavily influenced by Japanese tastes. I liked it personally but it's not for everyone. Both endings are melodical compared to the openings.

-Reasons to Watch-

I love these type of animes where the protagonist is kinda dumb, good hearted, naive and has that unavoidable charm around him. The supporting characters are also very likable with all their different fighting styles, backstories and personalities, even though I would have loved to get to know them a lot better. The characters development is one of the main factors of why this anime is so good.
The story was interesting to say the least. I was skeptical at first but I'm glad I watched it. Extermination of humongous insects? I'm in! The animation is also a feature worth of noticing. I'm not talking about every episode, but the effects and details when characters fight, the scenery, and some of the character distinctive features. It has that old Asian brush painting style (like when you use the brush in Okami the game). The humor is addictive, even though it's an old style of anime humor, but it works. When it wants to be serious or funny, it delivers. It even got a game series which not many animes have the honor.

Warning: Lot's of (Epic) bugs killing in the anime!

If you need a break from the super heavy popular animes or you just enjoy this style like I do, it's worth watching this one for sure!

Hope You Enjoy!~
