Canada's Government Promises to Legalize Marijuana

Newly elected Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau plans to legalize and regulate recreational marijuana.
What does the legalization look like? Well, they are modeling their program after the US states that regulated it.
Trudeau said in a speech today that Canada currently has a “failed system” and this would help remove the “criminal element” linked to the drug.
They will closely analyze the experiences of Colorado and Washington state, which recently legalized pot, to determine a best fit for Canada.

Community Discussion Time! Let's have a respectful chat about this!

What do you think of this move by Canada? With the promise of Canada legalizing marijuana, what do you think that means for the U.S. and other countries?

I live in Colorado and none of the thingd you are saying about legalizing marijuana so far is even close to true. There has not been an increase in people abusing stronger drugs no more than anywhere else, no one here is trying to legalize heroin or meth or cocaine or anything stronger., What legalization has done is caused tge growing and selling of marijuana to be very regulated. It has generated tons of revenue for the state in taxes and tourism. In my opinion, yes, anything is bad for your body in excess. Marijuana, alcohol, cigarettes, sugar, fatty foods., they all are unhealthy...and yes, I put marijuana in the same category as those others. I won't state it as fact, but im willing to bet that more people die from over-the-counter medications than from marijuana, and one benefit of legalization is that it actually keep people from doing something eay more harmful like synthetic marijuana
I say, legal or illegal, people will choose to use drugs. I'm seeing marijuana at a lesser value if it should be legalized. Making drugs illegal does not stop people from using it. People will find ways and means to destroy their bodies and there's no way you can stop them. I mean one can be helped at some point in time but,you know... Legalize d weed!!
I'm definitely for this because it will certainly make mj use safer- when it's criminalized you can't be sure if what you're using has been tainted with other drugs (which can lead to serious health problems). As it is mj is far less addictive than alcohol and in the states at least leads to far fewer DUI-type incidents. It was criminalized as part of the war on drugs, which was a thinly veiled way to legally suppress people who were protesting the government and fighting for civil rights. I can definitely see the concerns that @InPlainSight and @peahyr brought up, and I hope that following this there's an emphasis on how to use responsibly and safely. But truthfully I think this will mean more revenue through taxes and far fewer needless arrests for nonviolent drug offenders
Canada's new PM knows what's up! He can box, he's good looking, and he's going to legalize weed!
this would help their economy so much.

This Mall Santa Is Toronto's Latest Fashion Icon.
He's making a list. He's checking it twice. And he's also really, really, ridiculously good-looking. Say hello to Paul Mason, a veteran male model who's embraced his age by becoming 'Fashion Santa' for Toronto's Yorkdale Shopping Centre. Look out, Portland Santa. There's an edgier Mall Santa in town. His promotional photoshoot has gone viral, a collection of shots where Paul assumes the role of a slimmed down, GQ-esque Santa Claus, donning red leather jackets or pulling along a chopped down pine in thick knits and a tailored winter coat. What's up, Santa? You silver fox you. But wait, there's more! According to the mall's official website, every time a visitor shares their selfie with Fashion Santa through social media using the hashtag #YorkdaleFashionSanta, the mall donates $1 to the Sick Kids Foundation, a non-profit funding local pediatric hospitals. I just looked at the Instagram tag and found this lady up here. I mean, I've never seen someone more excited to donate a buck to a cause, have you? In any case, locals aren't the only ones having a fun time with it. Paul - I mean, Santa - has been really impressed with the kind of audience Fashion Santa has convinced to come out and pay him a visit: "On Saturday, I had a woman, she must have been 70 years old, she said, 'I haven't taken a photo with Santa since I was like five.' I love it." So if you're in the Toronto area during the holiday season, get ready to strike a pose with Fashion Santa. It is, after all, for a good cause!
Russia to Move Troops From Belarus to Occupied Ukraine: Kyiv
The general staff of Ukraine's armed forces Sunday said Russia is planning to transfer some of its units and personnel stationed in Belarus into the occupied territories of Ukraine. This comes as Russian losses mount, retreats have happened and a looming harsh winter approaches. "It is expected that the grouping of the enemy's troops operating in the temporarily occupied and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine will be strengthened due to the transfer of individual units from the territory of the Republic of Belarus after they acquire combat capabilities," they wrote. According to the Ukraine armed forces, there have been more than 87,000 Russian deaths since the full-scale war in Ukraine began in February. The war has entered its 277th day and 10th month. Russia amassed troops along Ukraine's northern and western borders in late January while it also conducted military with neighboring Belarus. Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24 this year and there have been heavy casualties on both sides. Belarus has been an ally of Russia the entire time and has provided airspace and territory for Russian missile strikes into Ukraine, the general staff noted. Since the war began, Russia has failed to overtake Kyiv, Lviv and Odesa, but they occupied many regions in the eastern portion of Ukraine. Russia has occupied most of the Donbas Oblast, which includes Luhansk, Severodonetsk, Donetsk and Mariupol. They occupied the Crimea peninsula in 2014. Just two weeks ago, Army Gen. Mark Milley, the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Russia had suffered more than 100,000 losses (including deaths plus injuries) and that there had been 40,000 civilian deaths of Ukrainians. He also noted Russia will take "weeks" to evacuate Kherson. "The initial indicators are they are in fact doing it," Milley said of Russia's retreat from Kherson. "I believe they're doing it in order to preserve their force, to reestablish defensive lines south of the (Dnieper) river, but that remains to be seen." U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the United States will continue monitoring Russia's claim of retreating Kherson. Sullivan said it would be a major win, but not necessarily the end of war. "If this does come to pass, that will mean in the battle of Kyiv, in the battle of Kherson, in the battle of Kharkiv, the Ukrainians will have prevailed against an invading, marauding force that conducted an illegal war in their country,'' Sullivan said this month. "But of course, it's not the end of the war.'' Ukraine says Russian had 600 deaths within the last day. https://colab.research.google.com/drive/1-z1HgZ2tiBwdPQ0LZkLXZUmp-iIzTnhT?usp=sharing Gain medium
In laser physics, the laser gain medium is the medium (usually in the form of a beam of light) that enhances the power of light. In lasers, this medium is required to compensate for the loss of the resonant cavity and is often referred to as the high energy laser medium. Gain media can also be applied to optical fiber amplifiers. Gain refers to the level of amplification. Since the gain medium increases the power of the amplified beam, the medium itself needs to receive the energy, i.e., through the pumping process, which generally progresses to either existing (electric pumping) or input light wave (optical pumping), and the pump wavelength is smaller than that of the signal light. Type of laser gain medium There are many types of gain media. The usual is: 1. Some direct bandgap semiconductors, such as GaAs, AlGaAs, and InGaAs, are usually pumped by electric currents in the form of quantum Wells (see semiconductor lasers). 2. Laser crystal or glass, such as Nd: YAG(neodymium-doped Yttrium aluminum garnet, see Yttrium aluminum garnet laser), Yb: YAG(Ytterbium-doped garnet laser), Yb: glass, Er: YAG(Erbium-doped YAG) or titanium sapphire, in solid sheet form (see doped lasers) or optical glass fiber (fiber lasers, fiber amplifiers). These crystals or glasses are doped with laser-active ions (mainly trivalent rare earth ions, which sometimes transfer metal ions) and pumped with light waves. Lasers using these media are often described as doped insulator lasers 3. Rare earth ions are usually added to ceramic gain media Laser dyes, usually liquid solutions, are used in color lasers Gas lasers utilize multiple gases or mixtures of gases, usually pumped by discharge tools (such as CO2 and excimer lasers) 4. The unique gain retarder consists of a chemical gain retarder (which converts chemical energy into light), a nuclear pump retarder, and an oscillator in a completely free electron laser (which transfers energy from a fast electron beam to a beam).

What is the difference between state solar subsidy scheme and national portal solar subsidy?
With the increasing electricity demand comes the problem of insufficient resources to support such usage. This can be especially difficult for low-income families who battle paying high electricity bills every month for basic household needs. To help ease this burden, the government has suggested solar energy as a renewable and more affordable option for electrical power. The growth of solar rooftops in India has been tremendous over the last few years. Residential rooftop solar accounts for roughly 20% of the overall rooftop mark. Residential installations have seen steady growth in the previous few years and have grown by 35% over the last year. The availability of subsidies and increased awareness of solar and its benefit is the primary catalyst for the growth of this sector This blog looks at the different subsidies available to you. Solar subsidies can improve affordability by reducing the cost of installing solar panels. If you’re thinking about installing solar panels, make sure to check out the different offerings that are available to you. State Solar Subsidy: The subsidy is available only for residential solar grid-connected systems (without batteries).  Commercial or industrial sectors are not eligible to avail of this scheme. Each DISCOM has benchmarked the rates at which solar companies can sell solar systems. The amount of subsidy available varies between 20-40% and depends on the system size. Details of the support are as below. System Capacity (kW) Solar Subsidy (in %) Up to 3kW 40% Above 3kW and Up to 10kW 40% up to 3kW 20% thereafter National Portal Solar Subsidy: Under the national portal solar subsidy scheme, the government offers a fixed subsidy depending on the system size you wish to install. The detail of the subsidy is as mentioned below. Solar System Capacity Applicable Subsidy Up to 3kW ₹14,588 per kW Above 3kW and up to 10kW ₹14,588 per kW up to 3kW ₹7,294 per kW thereafter 10kW and above ₹94,822 fixed amount irrespective of system size How to apply online for national portal solar subsidy: Step 1: Download Sandes App & Register Step 2: Login and apply for the Rooftop Solar as per the form Step 3: Wait for the feasibility approval from DISCOM. Once you get the feasibility approval to install the system from any of the registered vendors in your DISCOM Step 4: Once installation is over, submit the plant details and apply for a net meter Step 5: After installation of the net meter and inspection by DISCOM, they will generate a commissioning certificate from the portal Step 6: Once you get the commissioning report submit bank account details and a canceled cheque through the portal. The subsidy will come to your account within 30 working days Difference between the national subsidy scheme & State scheme Under State Scheme, the customer pays only the post-subsidy price to the solar company (Total Price — Subsidy amount). The solar company claims the subsidy amount from the government post-installation. In National Portal Scheme, customers apply for solar subsidies through National Portal. The subsidy amount is transferred to their bank account within 30 days of solar system commissioning. The customer will initially pay the entire amount to the solar company.
