An Open Letter to Congress, Love Obama

Obama gave a really important and historic speech yesterday, in his 3rd Oval Office Address since he was in office.
This is an abbreviated version of the points he made yesterday. (with a creative twist)

Dear Congress,

"Congress should act and make sure that no one on a no-fly list is able to buy a gun."

The U.S. has something called the no-fly list. Essentially, these people cannot fly anywhere without a changed reason. The reasoning? They are a threat to the people around them.
Obama essentially urges congress to not allow them to get a gun too. Makes sense

"If congress believes, as I do, that we are in a war with ISIL, it should go ahead and vote to authorize the continued use of military force against terrorists."

Legislation has to be passed for us to continue to fight against ISIS. As congress chills with the legislation in passing, we wait until we can continue to use military effort to target ISIL.

"Freedom is more powerful than fear."

Obama basically said to:
1. Stop discriminating on the Muslim religion as a whole, ISIL is a tiny fraction of those people, and they are thugs and bullies.
2. We cannot turn against each other. We have freedom and responsibility to help solve these big problems.

Love,

Obama

What do you think is the most important thing that Obama addressed?

"The threat of terrorism is real. But we will overcome it. We will destroy ISIL and any other organization that tries to harm us."

@JamiMilsap that fact REALLY surprised me. Like, "What why is this still a thing?!" There are so many things about our government and country that scare the poop out of me, but the idea that it can change helps a lot. Yeahhhh thanks @LisaMarissa I think that is the exact reaction Obama was looking for, to enact the need for change into the peacemakers. Interesting point @orenshani7 so you'll be watching Obama to see what he actually DOES after this instead of just how he acts...
LOL I was at a Car dealership and was watching it on mute. I thought it was really compelling. Balanced facts with calls to action nicely. Very well done.
OMG i have goosebumps didnt realize what i just wrote was in that passage. I would strongly pursue that NO BUYING GUN law and things related to that. People having freedom to purchase it is like having freedom to kill.PLEASE LET LETS DO IT HAND IN HAND AND MAKE IT WORK...I BELIEVE IN PRES.OBAMA and to all the PEACEMAKERS out there.
I didn't watch the speech and am just going by your summary above, but I think all of those points are really important and I don't think I could pick just one. ALL of those things need to happen. I will say this, I think that gun control legislation needs to go further than just people on the "No-Fly" list. :0(
Don't knowbyet how to explain more but I think it's people empowerment.

Minhyuk Hurt Again?
Multiple fans at a fan meet in Manila, as the video was posted by a girl there, a fan reportedly asked him if his leg was ok due to how he looked in the first couple of songs, he responded saying that he was fine. But also seen in the video at the end he bowed at his part because he knew it was obvious he in fact did hurt his right knee and was messing up during the dances. It is very painful to watch, seeing how much it hurts him. What Do The Protests in Seoul Look Like Now?
This past Friday the Korean Constitutional Court (think of it as the US Supreme Court) ruled unanimously that Park Geun Hye should be officially impeached. Since most of the country wanted this (at her lowest I think she has a 10% approval rating) there were massive celebrations in the streets. There were musicians, free food stalls, and fireworks. Now of course there are plenty of (mostly elderly) people rioting and claiming that this is the end of democracy (when really its just an example of democracy working...) but they are in contained areas surrounded by police. As far as I know 2 people died and many more are injured but its been due to violence by the pro-Park side (for example, the rioters were trying to flip over a police bus and knocked over a speaker which fell and killed an elderly man who was part of the riot...) I walked through the celebration area the day after the announcement if you'd like to take a look and hear the sounds. Skip to 4:20 unless you want to see my friends new cafe opening party haha :) If you could all do me a really big favor: Please give this video a thumbs up on YouTube here. People have been leaving incredibly nasty comments targeting myself and my family (I have deleted and blocked most of them) and this video now has some of the most down-votes I've ever had on a video :/ That would really mean a lot! Thank you ㅠㅠ Korea now has to vote for a new president so that will be starting as we speak :)
MRW: The State Of The Union Address
Tonight was the United States' annual State of the Union address. To those of you a little rusty on your US politics, every January, the president delivers the State of the Union, a speech that addresses all that has been accomplished in the past year, all the current problems the nation is facing, and what citizens can expect of their government moving forward. Since it's an event full of politics, it's incredibly entertaining to make fun of - especially since, in such speeches, there's a very fine line between promise and prose. I've never been a huge fan of the politics, but I do understand the significance of the State of the Union as a citizen of the country. And as a citizen of the country, I get to make fun of it too, right? SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, my MRW: State Of The Union edition.* ** MRW = "My Reaction When..." (for those of you still out of the know) MRW: POTUS says he'll make junior college free this year. PEACE OUT, CRIPPLING DEBT!! WE WISH WE NEVER KNEW YE!! MRW: POTUS makes not-so-subtle jabs at Republicans. One of the biggest highlights of the speech was "Food Stamp recipients didn’t cause the financial crisis; recklessness on Wall Street did." Daaaaamn, Obama. It must be easy to talk smack when you're not up for re-election. MRW: POTUS claims Veep Biden will help America cure cancer. Okay, I'm pretty sure Obama meant that Biden would make sure that the National Institutes of Health would have all the financial resource they need in order to cure cancer, but it was pretty much phrased like Biden freelances in clinical oncology on the side. Which would be weird. But also wildly impressive? MRW: POTUS mentions the country's renewed relationship with Cuba. Maybe in a few years, we'll finally be able to tour the country ourselves and eat some REAL Cuban sandwiches. You know, fingers crossed. MRW: POTUS follows up each point with 'America is the best! We're world leaders!' rhetoric. Okay, okay, we get it. We're Americans, and we come from an incredibly capable and successful country. But you don't have to turn this into an America advertisement. We're U.S. citizens. We're all sipping the same red, white, and blue Kool-Aid. MRW: POTUS says he'll be brief, but it turns into the 16th longest speech in the State of the Union's 226 year history. This kid is like the official representative of everyone who stuck it out watching the SOTU at home. That yawn is pretty much everything. And with that, I give you my reactions to this year's State of the Union. Feel free to add your own thoughts regarding this week's speech in the comment section below!
