A few years ago I went on a date and the guy told me he'd make my favorite dessert. I quickly stammered, "tres leches." A big part of me didn't think he could actually work the kitchen -- boy was I wrong. He actually made my favorite dessert, and no, it wasn't store bought. He came over and I watched him prepare tres leches totally from scratch. If you can find someone who knows how to make tres leches, keep them around forever (or until you learn how to make it yourself haha).
Tres leches is translated to three milks. It has condensed milk, evaoprated milk, and heavy cream. The cake is soaked, which makes the cake very moist and soft.
What You'll Need:
18 1/4 ounce box white cake mix
4 large eggs
1 1/4 cups water
1 cup heavy cream
1 12 ounce can of evaporated milk
1 14 ounce can of sweetened condensed milk
How To Make It:
1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9x12 baking pan.
2) In a large bowl, beat eggs. Then add water and cake mix. Beat for about 3 minutes. Pour the cake batter into the baking pan. Bake for 30 minutes. Allow the cake to cool to room temperature when it's done baking.
3) Mix the three milks in a large bowl.
4) Poke the cake with *a lot* of holes! Then pour the milk mixture slowly over the cake until the cake has absorbed the milks. Refrigerate until you're ready to serve!
