In retail, as with any service-based job, a friendly approachable appearance is key in converting transactions and promoting good customer service.
According to GoodWill's Illinois division, Kanye West's facial expressions are not the disposition they want their workers to have.
Earlier this year, Kanye explained the icy look, saying, “Back when I was working on Yeezus, I saw this book from the 1800s and it was velvet-covered with brass and everything. I looked at all these people’s photos and they look so real and their outfits were incredible and they weren’t smiling and people, you know the paparazzi, always come up to me, ‘Why you not smiling?’ and I think, not smiling makes me smile…When you see paintings in an old castle, people are not smiling cause it just wouldn’t look as cool.”
“Do you suffer from Resting Kanye Face?” a recent newsletter asks, depicting the rapper with the same expression for happy, sad, concerned, scared and excited. TMZ has gotten hold of the pamphlet which follows up the question by saying, “Those who do, may not be seen by others as ‘approachable.'”
Who never thought Kanye West's facial expressions would be a point of reference in customer service for a huge company.

kanye is an idiot. my great grandma said no one smiled in pictures back then because it would take so damn long to snap a freaking photo or paint a portrait. she said no one could hold a smile for hours. she was born in 1900. (she wasnt smiling in her 18th birthday picture from 1918)

@arnelli right?! Ugh this is true in all retail but it feels like Goodwill is being extra insulting since they're a charity. Emotional labor is way harder than people think and it's incredibly draining. How do people think it feels when you get screamed at all day, have to work ridiculous unreliable hours and still can barely pay for rent and food because the wages are so garbage, oh and you have to smile and act like you love it all day
