Americans Naming Their Babies After Guns?!
Long gone are the days of simple names like 'Mary' and 'Thomas' and 'John. A new trend in baby names has been gaining speed over the past few years - and it's definitely starting to raise a few eyebrows.
It seems these days more and more Americans are naming their children after guns, according to a survey by a US baby name website.
Really, people?! Guns?! In the United States, more than 1,500 babies were named Gunner last year, placing it in the top 200. Other gun-related names included Trigger, Shooter, Caliber, Magnum, and Pistol.
I'm not quite sure how naming your baby any of these names makes a lot of sense. Unless you're a bizarrely huge fan of 'Magnum PI'. In which case, aren't you a little too old to be having kids these days? There's also been a rise in names relating to specific gun manufacturers: Barrett, Remington, Kimber, Ruger, Wesson, Browning, Benelli, and Beretta.
Browning? I guess.
I can't even THINK of that word without picturing a scene from R Kelly's "Trapped In The Closet". You want to name your kid after THAT?! Maybe not so surprisingly, these names are usually just for boys. However, I can't help but wonder what makes American families think these names are a good idea - especially when acknowledging our country's escalating gun control problems.
How about you guys? Do you know anyone who named their kids any of these names? Or maybe you can shed some light as to why anyone would name their kids after guns?
Let me know beloowwww.
