NFL Week 14 Preview

With lots of great NFL football on this week as the playoffs approach, let's make some picks!

Steelers vs. Bengals

The Bengals have had the division lead for the entire season behind QB Andy Dalton and WR AJ Green but the Steelers are always a dangerous team come the end of the season. Ben Roethlisberger just seems to know how to win tight, important games, and I'm not sure the same can be said about Dalton.
However, the game is in Cincinnati, so I'll give it to the home team. Bengals 31, Steelers 23.

Titans vs. Jets

Rookie Marcus Mariota has been solid for the Titans recently, but WR Brandon Marshall is having one of the best seasons of his long career and his partner Eric Decker have given Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick lots of be happy about. The Jets are playing for a playoff spot while Tennessee's season is virtually over.
I think the Jets' D and their hot offense is too strong for the rookie QB. Jets 23, Titans 13.

Cowboys vs. Packers

Two teams that have struggled more than others thought they might this season match up in Green Bay. The Cowboys will again be without Tony Romo. Both teams had crazy wins last week with the Pack winning on one of the most improbably Hail Mary plays of all time.
While neither team has had a good season, I'm giving it to the home team in a beat down. Packers 31, Cowboys 17.

Do I have it right? What do you guys think? Enjoy the games!

Love It Or Hate It: Live Sporting Events?
Welcome to the Funny Community game, Love It Or Hate It! This game is really similar to Monday's 'No Good or So Good' food game - except this one deals a lot more with non-food things. Every week, I highlight a different thing that a lot of people either really love or really hate and see how our community feels overall! Last week, I asked you how you felt about SELFIE STICKS. It was an EXTREMELY tight vote, but out of the 60 who gave your opinion, 33 of you said that they're actually kind of useful! Soooo... SELFIE STICKS WIN!!!! This week, I want to know: How do you feel about attending live sports games? Spectator sports have been around since the days of Ancient Greece, but the ones we know and love today came into being in the mid 19th century! The number of Americans that attend at least one live sporting event annually is easily in the tens of millions. However, the amount of them that find said sporting event COMPLETELY BORING is still widely unknown. How do YOU feel about spectator sports? Are they tons of fun or brutally boring? Late Introduction
My apologies, I was having such a good time on Vingle that I forgot to properly introduce myself. My real name is Jason. I live in the Pacific Northwest region of the USA. First off, I am husband and father to my psychotic but lovable family. I have some cats. Jackson and Sarah respectively. Jackson is a 17 pound tomcat I picked up in an alley and Sarah is his feral daughter we eventually tamed. I'm a high school dropout. Never could maintain interest and besides, my skills were already developed long before I even hit middle school. I am great with machines. All machines. If you can put an energy source in one side and get a desired reaction out the other; I can build, repair, and especially modify it. I love to modify cars, especially Fords. No, not Mustangs or the usual candidates for souping up. I do sleepers. You know, the ones that shouldn't be fast but leave you wondering how the hell something like that could slam your doors. I don't watch a whole lot of TV, but when I do it's anime. I was taught Japanese culture and language in middle school. It gives me a greater appreciation for anime and manga when I am aware of the cultural nuances. Going to Sakura-con this year? I'll see you there. I you went last year, you might have seen me. You know, the ONLY Sebastian who was slender and over 6 1/2 feet tall. Yeah, that one. I was a Seahawk fan before is was cool. Since I was there for the bad years, it makes these good years feel a whole lot better. Before I close, I will give an honorable mention to videogames. Now it is my kids who benefit from me keeping everything I had since my own childhood. There is so much more in my life I love, but the last word belongs to booze. Especially beer. Not just because I'm a drunk, but it is a skilled craft and the best way to show my appreciation is to drink up. Well that is a peek into my twisted little life. Hope that is enough to let you know where I stand in this world. BONUS One Vingle member is my kid. Can anyone figure out who it is? Neither one of us will try to make it obvious.
NFL Running Backs in Contract Year 2013
People familiar to fantasy sports know that contract years can play a major role in predicting a big year from a player. This years notable "contract year" running backs include: Darren McFadden: When he stays healthy, he's a monster. The question is if he can actually play out an entire year. The Raiders are ditching the zone-blocking scheme of last year and are going back to a scheme that will allow McFadden to be the key to the offense. He will have to be amazing, especially with unproven Matt Flynn at the helm, for the Raiders to win games. Expect a big year from McFadden while crossing your fingers that he avoids the injury bug. Maurice Jones-Drew: Last year was certainly a disaster for MJD. First his attempt to hold out ended up as a failure, then he got a LIsfranc foot injury knocking him out for the majority of the season, and just recently he gets in a fight at a bar. I doubt that management is going to extend him a new offer and he is likely playing for a new contract with another team. While he is still not practicing, expect a motivated year from him to try and make the Jaguars look stupid for not extending him. Rashard Mendenhall: He couldn't get the multi-year contract that he wanted so is playing on a one year deal with the Cardinals. This is his chance to prove he can handle the RB1 load again. His main competition is Ryan Williams, who cannot seem to avoid injury. Now with Carson Palmer at the helm, the Cardinals offense may be in for a revival this season. Expect a healthy dose of run to keep pressure off Palmer and to utilize their new first round draft choice left guard Jonathan Cooper, who is known for his run blocking. Ben Tate: The famous Arian Foster handcuff has not been able to showcase his skills as a RB1 as Foster has proven to be a pretty dependable back. Fumble issues have also lowered Tates opportunities to handle the rock in crucial situations. However with an extra year of experience, and another year of pounding for Foster, Kubiak would be wise to give Tate some extra carries this year to keep Foster fresh for the playoffs. Marcel Reece: Marcel had a big year last year filling in for McFadden while he was injured. It would be wise for anyone drafting McFadden to handcuff him with Reece in the later rounds. Reece has proven he can be productive if given the carries and targets. If McFadden goes down early and Reece is able to start for a majority of the year, he could be in line for a big payday next year. Joe McKnight: McKnight likely won't be able to get many carries with Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, and Mike Goodson all ahead of him on the depth chart. I would not draft him in any leagues. He will likely be used for special teams. Scroll through the pictures and highlight videos with the arrows. Photos by Sam Greenwood/Getty Images, Jim Rassol, Sun Sentinel, Al Bello/Getty Images.
NFL Dads Tackle Hair Styling In This Pantene Campaign.
Every year, major sponsors shell out some serious cash to grab our attention during the Super Bowl, by far the largest single sporting event of the year. They enlist A-List celebrities, bust out the CGI, and have the ability to transform a typical 30-second spot into a minute long movie of epic proportions. However, if there's one thing that these companies can learn from haircare brand Pantene this year, it's that turning on America's feels doesn't have to be that complicated - just bring in the adorableness of some NFL kids! Pantene's 'Dad-Do' Super Bowl campaign features a number of popular NFL fathers taking a stab at styling their daughters' hair with Pantene products. Like you could probably guess, they definitely struggle through it, but with some adorable encouragement from their daughters, the results are very much 'aww'-worthy. (My personal favorite is pictured above: DeAngelo Williams of the Pittsburgh Steelers versus his daughter Rhiya's braids and bows.) Benjamin Watson, tight end for the New Orleans Saints, displayed some pigtail game earning an impressed high five from his daughter, Grace. (He tried to argue that bigger hands make it hard for athletes to style hair, but he didn't do too bad for a first-timer!) The Dallas Cowboys' Jason Witten's adorable daughter Landry was SUPPOSED to get a braided ballerina bun, but let's just say there were some complications on the way. (Hey, if there's anything the Cowboys learned this season, it's that you can't win 'em all!) Click the video above for a look at the finished 30-second Super Bowl ad, or visit Pantene's official YouTube Channel to watch the full styling videos from each athlete. So how do you think they did? Was this concept just as adorable to you as it was to me? Let me know in the comments below and for more trending videos from across the web, follow my YouTube Nation collection!
[Remember the Titans] Brother
[Photo: Julius Campbell (left), Gary Bertier (right)] I recently watched my favorite sports movie of all time, Remember the Titans, for like the 100th time. For those of you that haven't watched the movie, it's based on a true story about a high school football team, in a town that is racially divided. And for the first time, the team becomes racially integrated and an African American coach is newly appointed in the head coaching spot. They all have their differences and troubles in the beginning, but through football, they come together as one. And there is this one scene that gets me every single time I watch this movie. Julius visits Gary who is in the hospital after a horrible car accident. Gary is paralyzed from the waist down and when Julius walks into the room, the nurse stops him, saying only kins are allowed. Gary responds, "Alice, are you blind? Don't you see the family resemblance? That's my brother." In a time when we are so divided by our race, religion, background...I think there is still hope in this world where we can become brothers, we can become sisters, we can become family despite our differences. In the final moments of the movie, these words are said: "People say that it can't work, black and white. Here, we make it work every day. We still have our disagreements, of course, but before we reach for hate, always, always, we remember the Titans." What are some of your favorite sports movies? How did they inspire you?
