Friday Favorite: Zara Flat Platform Lace-up Shoes

It was love at first sight.

I usually have more than one favorite item for the week, but I felt like this specific purchase deserved all the shine. It's not everyday that I buy pieces that I immediately fall in love with. Okay, maybe I do, but these shoes were literally love at first site. I shared these about a week ago on my must-have card and low and behold, they are now mine. It's no secret that Zara is an amazing store that has amazing clothes and shoes. This was my first time purchasing a pair of shoes and believe me when I say it was on a whim. I had heard several mixed reviews about the sizing of the shoes, etc, but I couldn't be anymore pleased than I already am.
I mean the shoes are perfect and they are right up my alley. The color, the style -- just perfect. I can literally see myself wearing these shoes each and every season. Let me not forget to add that I am longing to order the navy pair they also have in stock. Something about the added platform and the skinny laces, just scream androgynous and chic. I'm in love. If you're looking for a great shoe, check out Zara. You won't be disappointed. Take my word for it.

What do you think about them?

How would you pair them?

just developed a strange love for skirts (used to hate the thing) so I'll pair it with a calf length pencil skirt - (high waist and print) and a white or nude coloured long sleeved chiffon top or a sleeveless one and a blazer. for accessories & jewelry - my big round earring cause my hair is cropped short (pixie), a simple bangle, long necklace - simple and a clutch bag.
Yessss! Totally agree :) @Gacrus
I love it. ^^
Sounds like the perfect outfit! I love pencil skirts and I think they would look excellent with these shoes. Thanks so much @Priscilla!
Yesss! I saw the black ones in f21. Love!!! @TessStevens

DIY Missoni Chevron Shoes
Step 1: Gather supplies. One pair of white canvas sneakers Ruler Manila file folder or other stiff paper Pencil Scissors Fabric markers in various colors (ones with both a thick and thin tip are best) Step 2: Using the ruler, draw a straight line near the edge of the manila file folder. Step 3: Draw a second line a half-inch down from the first one. Use the ruler to make tick marks at every half-inch interval on both lines. Step 4: Next, create a zig-zag pattern inside the two parallel lines by connecting every other tic. For example, start at the bottom left-hand corner of the lower line, and connect to the second tic mark on the upper line. Connect the second tic-mark on the upper line to the third tic mark on the lower line, and so on. Step 5: Now that you've just created all of those triangles, cut away the lower row of them (sorry!). You should be left with what looks like a row of teeth at the bottom of the folder. Feel free to use this template to create a shark or bear costume for Halloween. Step 6: Okay, now take out your plain canvas shoes and remove the lacesโ€”you don't want to color over them, nor do you want to try to color around them. Step 7: Position the template onto the toe of the sneaker. You'll be working your way from the front to the back of the shoe. Position the template wherever you like it best, but we felt it was easiest to keep things lined up by having the point of one triangle in the center of the shoe. Step 8: Move the template back and trace another row of triangles, making sure all of the points more or less match up with the previous rows. To get a true Missoni look, vary the spacing of the templateโ€”there's no right and wrong with this, so feel free to have lots of thin rows and then one giant row, followed by a medium and small row, and so on. Step 9: Okay, now it's time for the fun part! Grab your fabric markers and start coloring in the rows, making sure that each row is a different color. The colors don't have to be spaced evenly or in any sort of pattern (but go for it if you want!), so feel free to switch it up as much as you'd like. If your markers have differently sized tips, use the thin edge to outline the rows, and the thick to fill them in. Step 10: To make your kicks look extra-polished, make sure you color the inside rim of the sneaker! You've come all this way, so don't skimp out on this step. Step 11: Now, it's time to color the tongue of the sneaker. This part can be a little awkward since it's hard to get a good angle, but don't worry, since you only see a little bit of the tongue, you don't have to be too accurate. Just do your best and color the parts you can see, trying to match the colors and patterns from either side of the shoe. Step 12: All that's left to do now is lace up the sneakers and take them for a test drive! Your friends are going to be so enamored with your DIY skills, that they're going to try to get you to make them a pair. Beware!
DIY Glitter Shoes!
What youโ€™ll need: -Any pair of flats, canvas shoes, or loafers -Mod Podge (available at craft stores) -Glitter (gold, silver, etc.) -Newspaper & a plate or bowl -Foam brushes or paint brushes -Clear coat spray paint (to make sure the glitter stays on!) First, youโ€™ll want to stuff newspaper down into the shoe so that no glitter or glue gets inside! I removed the laces from my shoes also, just to make sure they didnโ€™t get all gunked up. Pour some of the mod podge onto a plate or into a bowl. I used a paper plate because they are disposable and it was easier to use a flat surface to get a thin coating of the mix. Next, youโ€™ll want to pour some glitter into the mod podge. Youโ€™ll want about half as much glitter as there is mod podge, because you donโ€™t want the mix to be too thick. Mix the glitter and mod podge together using one of your foam brushes. Then get ready to paint your shoes! Paint a thin coat of the mix onto the shoe. Make sure that it is smooth and not too chunky because it will dry that way! I didnโ€™t want to paint the whole shoe, so I only painted the front and the back, leaving the middle white. Once you have the mod podge mix on the shoe, youโ€™ll want to pour a SMALL amount of glitter onto the spots you just painted. This just gives the shoe a little extra glitter, and makes sure that there are no white spots. When youโ€™re finished adding the glitter to the shoes, youโ€™ll want to clean off any extra glitter that is on the shoe because you donโ€™t want it to be stuck there when you spray the clear coat. I used a damp paper towel to clean off the edges and the bottom. Last but not least, spray your shoes with a clear coat spray paint. This makes sure that the glitter stays shiny and does not fall off the shoes. Make sure to read the directions on the can and do not get it on your skin or in your eyes. When this is done, youโ€™ll want the shoes to sit and dry overnight to make sure that they are ready to wear.

Co-ords and Matching Tops & Bottoms: a Trend for Fall
I've raved about the matching top and bottom trend, also known as co-ords, which exploded on the fashion scene this summer. Looking forward to fall, the trend doesn't seem to be disappearing anytime soon. Are you just warming up to the look and hoping to make it work when temperatures drop below 80 degrees? Fear not, because co-ords have only just begun to be relevant and in style. Here are the styles you'll want to wear come fall. Style 1: Crop-tops and culottes or flares. Whether they're palazzo pants, flared trousers, or the coveted culotte, so many retailers are matching swingy pants to cropped tops in a fall-ready version of matching shorts and tops. If you want the simpler version of this style, go for matching solids, but if you're bolder, try a printed pair of flared pants for a super-70's vibe, complete with matching cropped top. Get the look here, here, and here. Style 2: Tunics and trousers. For a sleek and almost 90's style, try a sleeveless silky or knit tunic that hits mid-thigh and a matching pair of straight-leg or flared trousers that drop down under the tunic. It's a more fashion-forward version of the aforementioned crop top and pant, but will still look sexy with bare arms. Add heeled booties to complete the look, and throw a moto jacket over. Get the look here, here, and here. Style 3: Knit skirts and crop-tops. For a bodycon co-ord that you can also wear out at night, try a knit pencil skirt that reaches to (or just past) your knee and a matching top that shows just a sexy sliver of midriff. Transition from summer to early fall with sandals, and then add booties and a jacket when fall is in full force. Get the look here, here, and here. Style 4: Long sleeved tops or jackets and mini skirts. The flirty classic co-ord is a miniskirt and matching top or jacket. It's not like miniskirts cease to exist when the temperatures drop. Most simple a-lines or skirt that are fitted through the hips and flares out will look good year-round over tights. This is a fun and playful style, and you can always seperate the pieces and wear them with other combinations. Get the look here, here, and here. Style 6: Modest and simple (but still chic). Another co-ord for fall (and maybe even winter) is a more covered-up look that swathes you in fabric of one color or pattern. It's a super-sophisticated look that's still cool and fresh. If you want to get this look without buying anything new, try a simple black-on black top and bottoms pairing, match your colorful pieces, or wear a canadian tuxedo with denim in the same wash. Get the look here, here, and here.
DIY Sponge-Dyed Ombre Sneakers
You'll need: โ€ข Gloves โ€ข Syringe (1 per color) โ€” Optional but recommended :) โ€ข Rubber Cement โ€” Optional โ€ข Masking Tape โ€” If you donโ€™t have rubber cement โ€ข Sponge โ€ข Popsicle sticks for mixing the dye โ€ข Fabric Dye (Liquid or Powder) โ€ข Paintbrush (Make sure itโ€™s clean โ€” I suggest using a new brush; just buy the cheapest one) โ€ข Plastic Cups for mixing dye โ€ข Hot water โ€ข Newspaper or anything to cover your work area โ€ข Wear clothes you donโ€™t mind having fabric dye spilled or splattered on Step 1: Bring out your sneakers :D (old or new) Step 2: Cover all the rubber side strips with Masking tape or Rubber Cement to block out the dye from adhering to the rubber. You can remove it afterwards or wait for it to wear off We wonโ€™t be dipping the entire shoe in the dye mixture so thereโ€™s no need to cover the soles. Step 3: Now you have to wet/soak your sneakers (canvas part only) with HOT water. You can do so by using a paintbrush first then soaking it more with a sponge. Step 4: Make your dye mixture Step 5: Once youโ€™re done mixing your dye mixture (darkest) ~ take out your atomizer and syringe (optional). I think the smaller atomizers will work best for sneakers as it wonโ€™t cover a large surface area. For bigger materials such as shirts, you can use the bigger atomizers (Yes, the one you use when ironing clothes) Step 6: Use your sponge to wet your sneakers again :) Make sure to cover the whole area~! Spray the back part of your shoe with the dye bath. Careful not to over-spray :) You can always spray again :D Step 7 : Now take your brush, dip it in your hot water and carefully blend out your dye (Colored to white areas of your shoe). Yes, we are now creating the โ€˜ombre effectโ€™. Use more water as you get nearer the middle part of your shoe or wherever you want the ombre to end (white). Afterwards, clean your brush and dip it again in water (clean hot water). Now carefully brush water starting from the WHITE part of your shoe to the lightest ombre โ€” this is to remove or make any hard lines more subtle. Repeat steps until youโ€™re satisfied with your ombre. If youโ€™re using only one color, you can stop here and let your sneaks dry :) Step 8: If youโ€™re planning to have 2 or more colors, simply repeat steps 4 - 7.
