Boston Dynamics and the way they made that robot dog that can get kicked all over the place without falling over was really cool and ultimately terrifying because looking at a robot thing act like a living thing is an actual nightmare. It has weird life-like legs but it doesn't have a face and it trots like if it did have a face, it'd be making one of those smug looks.
You know the one, the "look at me I'm so cool" face. Well, fuck you robot dog. I'm scared of you. Anyway, Boston Dynamics released another video to celebrate the upcoming Holiday Doom and it's definitely a scary look into the future of being pulled along by weird robot dogs.
Even the video is barely a minute long, it was weird watching this lady get pulled on a sleigh by three robot dogs dressed up like reindeer -- if reindeer were horrifying pieces of metal with felt antlers taped to their heads, that is. It reminded me of something.
It reminded me of that reoccurring nightmare I used to have. One where I was being crushed by robotic things. Trying my best to fight back but my flesh and bone punches were nothing for their titanium shell. I broke my knuckles on what I would call their chest and with "eyes" (more like lenses) so lifeless holding me down, I screamed for help.
But help never came. It never does. Instead, I'm pinned to the ground watching in anguish and fear as the robot breaks each one of my limbs until I stop flailing. Until the threat is eliminated.
"I am a threat to others and myself" the robot says. If it could actually say anything. But those words repeat over and over and over in my head as I dream-bleed out. When I wake up, I can only remember those eight words:
