Does success in the school system correlate to success in life? Or is the school system simply geared towards fact retention and regurgitation? What is true education?
@goyo : I think i did get you wrong :D !! sorry mate!
@tapsamai don't get me wrong I'm not saying other countries do not apply the critical thinking method. I was only stating it is one of the few strengths in US educational system
@goyo critical thinking, many developed country have that strong value in their education system, not only USA. if u compare the K12 of US with other OECD countries, it would rank in the bottom. lacking funding in the public school as you said , for me , also one of the reason . in the USA , as well in the UK , they try to make business out of education; to me , it is the idea of capitalism that ruins the K12 education system of USA.
@tapsamai the US education system has a ton of flaws but it does one thing that I have learned to value: critical thinking. It's exactly as @yinofyang said there is no point in learning something if you don't understand the reasoning behind it. I think in that respect, critical thinking is a strength of the US educational system. The problem is not US educational system as a whole rather the public school system that continues to lack the funding it deserves
Yes, I agree with you. The education below college here in the USA needs major improvement. Not at schools fall into that category but a large number of them do. Finland? Very interesting, I didn't know that. I'll have to go read up on it. :-)
