자막없이 TV를 볼 수 있는 그날까지 쭉 ~ !! 오늘 소개해드릴 영상은 엠마 왓슨Emma Watson의 인터뷰입니다. 인터뷰 주제는 'Life after Harry Potter' 즉 '해리포터 이후의 삶'입니다. 엠마 왓슨에게 해리포터 영화의 마지막 편을 찍고 난 뒤에 무엇을 할지 물어보고 있네요.
쉬운 단어, 짧은 문장이 등장하는 광고와 달리 아무래도 인터뷰 영상은 조금 어려울 수 있답니다. 대본을 그대로 읽는 형식이 아니기 때문에 문법적으로도 조금 맞지 않는 부분이 등장하곤 하지요. 그래도 시도해볼만한 가치가 있는 영상입니다. 엠마 왓슨의 우아한 영국 발음을 음미해 보세요 ^^
그럼 한번 <Life after Harry Potter>를 들어볼까요? 난이도는 중간입니다.

No.. I think there's some confusion.
아뇨.. 제 생각엔 약간의 혼란이 있는 것 같아요.

So, they are sort of saying that

it means I'm giving up acting,
그것이(대학에 가는 것이) 내가 연기를 그만둔다는 것을 의미한다구요,
which doesn't at all.
그건 사실이 전혀 아니에요.
It means, I'm just taking a bit of a break for a couple of years and,
그게 의미하는 건, 제가 그저 몇 년 동안 휴식을 취한다는 거예요
you know, I've managed to juggle my film career alongside my school up until this point.
그리고 알다시피, 저는 영화경력과 학업을 잘 병행해 왔어요, 지금까지.
So, I just sort of expect that to continue and...
그러니까 저는 그게 지속되기를 기대하는 것이고,

아니, 제 생각에 그들(미디어)이 좀 많이 나간 것 같아요.
6. 오늘의 포인트!
1) identify : 머리 속에 있는 것a과 지금 보고 있는 것a'이 같은지 다른지 비교해보면서 우리는 어떤 사물을 알아차리고 확인하지요. 이런 이유로 원래 '동일시하다'는 뜻의 identify는 '알아차리다, 알아보다'recognize라는 뜻을 가지게 되었습니다.
2) shred : 다소 생소할 수 있지만 알아두면 무척 유용한 단어입니다. 어떤 서류를 세단기에 쫙 갈았을 때 나오는 그 종이 조각! 그 이미지를 떠올리면 shred를 완벽히 이해한 셈입니다. 동사로는 '잘게 찢다'라는 뜻이 있지요. [쉬레드] 정도로 발음된다는 것도 꼭 기억해 두세요.
3) give or take : give and take는 '주고 받기'이지만 give or take는 '대략, 얼마간의 차이는 있지만' 이라는 뜻입니다. 약간 더하거나(+) 빼거나(-) 라는 의미에서 온 표현입니다. 유용하게 꼭 한번 써먹어 보세요!
=> give or take a day 하루 정도 차이가 날지 모르겠지만
4) got a bit carried away : get 뒤에 'carried away'라는 형용사가 왔습니다. get + 형용사는 '~한 상태가 되다'라는 뜻이었지요. '좀 많이 나간'이라는 뜻의 carried away가 와서 '좀 많이 나간 상태가 되었다'라고 해석할 수 있겠네요.
