'The Revenant', 'Mad Max' lead Oscars 2016 nominations

The 88th Academy Awards nominations are out. This time Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer semi-biographical adventure drama film 'The Revenant' has topped the list with 12 nominations in major categories of best picture, best actor and director and George Miller's action flick 'Mad Max: Fury Road' came close with 10 nominations.' The Martian' has bagged seven nominations while 'Carol' and 'Spotlight' got six each.
The Revenant has brought DiCaprio close to the Oscars glory which had already brought him 'Golden Globe' for best performance by an actor in a motion picture-drama. On the other hand the director Alejandro González Inarritu is back in the game after winning big last year for 'The Birdman'.
For the second year in a row, the Academy did not nominate any black actor to any of the 20 slots and is slammed for being too white again. Last year's minority-free acting nominations led to the protest hashtag #OscarsSoWhite. Two prominent African-Americans announced Monday that they will boycott this year's Academy Awards over a lack of diversity among nominees.
