I am a fan of psychological / mystery animes and I came across this one because of a friends recommendation. Now, I was skeptical at first, it didn't look as if the story was that heavy but oh boy...I couldn't have been more wrong. Setting aside every other feature of the anime, the story is the best thing the anime has to offer and its more than enough to considered one of the most underrated animes from last year. It does have a slow pace which might frustrate some of the viewers but its definitely worth watching it until the end.
There are many characters, however, most of the story is based on the main three, Saikawa, Moe and Magata. There is no development, maybe just a tad but its minuscule, but rather they decided to focus on the interaction between the characters rather than giving them amazing backstories and huge developments and that's perfectly fine because it WORKS! The relationship between them matches in a way where you don't really need all of the above. But they do have their own very unique personalities which is another reason why the story is good.
The opening song (Talking by KANA-BOON) is fantastic, which mixes that anime J-Rock and J-Pop while the ending does give you that cryptic feeling the anime gives you. The voice acting is pretty good, the ambiance music fits nicely to the situations and there really isn't need for sound effects as this anime is more on the mystery/psychological side rather than murder and violence.
-Reasons to Watch-
Watch it for the heavy story. I will say, that this anime is not for everybody. It does lack character development, it has a very slow start and the story is nothing we haven't seen yet. HOWEVER, for every flaw the anime has, it also has a very good solution for each of them. Yes, it has a slow start but they executed it very well where it does make you more curious about what's happening and thus building that tension and suspense many mystery animes lack these days. There is very little character development but as I mentioned above, they make it up with the great execution, interaction and relationship these characters have. Lastly, the plot is nothing we haven't seen but once again, fantastic execution, good tension building and believe me, the ending does have a pretty big impact. I admit it did blew my mind to some extent and I loved it.
Don't be fooled by the slow start but be patient and the anime will satisfy you in more ways than one. I won't say it is a must-watch but rather one of the most under-rated anime from last year that does deserve a chance, because I do see potential for it.
