For many, toast is a morning no-brainer. You pick your bread, you toast it, and smear butter, jam, whatever.
But for A LOT OF PEOPLE, especially those of us who live in LA, toast is the love-hate carb addiction we've sworn off LONG AGO in hopes of harnessing better, beautiful bodies.
That all seems to be changing, however. And that's because of the blessed avocado. It's saving bread from never being toasted and from skipping the breakfast menu of gym addicts, like myself.
1. Start with your favorite bread that you love toasted. If it happens to be a bagel, then so be it.
2. Make it more about good fats, proteins and essential carbs, such as gorgonzola cheese, avocados, pears and walnuts. YUM!!!
The recipe from Jessica Merchant of How Sweet It Is.
1/4 cup walnuts
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
2 avocados, smashed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 slices bread, toasted
1 pear, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons honey, drizzled
2 tablespoons crumbled gorgonzola cheese
Add the walnuts and cinnamon to a small saucepan over medium-low heat and toast until golden and fragrant, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Make sure to stir and shake the pan so the nuts don't burn - you want them golden in color and nutty-smelling. You can break them apart a bit before or after toasting to make it easier to sprinkle them on top.
Smash the avocado in a bowl with the salt and pepper. Spread it on the toast and layer the pear slices and gorgonzola on top of the avocado, followed by the cinnamon walnuts.
Drizzle the entire thing generously with honey.
Finally, eat it like it's your last meal on earth and LOVE EVERY MINUTE of it without regrets!
For those who love cocktails as much as me, you probably love toast too. The two seem to go hand-in-hand. Like a bottomless mimosa would be perfect with this! Click here for this dreamy mimosa!
