No, this is not a joke. This is a real thing — there is woman who lives in California and has more than 1,000 cats. (For those of you who know me, you know this is my ideal version of heaven.)
It's time to meet the woman who lives with 1,000 cats!
In 1983, Lynea Lattanzio bought a large, 6-acre property in California. A few years later, her father asked her to help him find Manx cats to replace his previous two cats who had died of old age. In her search for Manx cats, Lynea visited a local animal shelter and ended up coming home with a box of 15 abandoned kittens (for the record: none of them were Manx cats). And that's how it all started. She has now named her property The Cat House on the Kings, and it now serves as a no-cage, no-kill shelter for homeless cats and kittens.
The Cat House on the Kings was recently covered by Great Big Story and the video is priceless. Watch the video above for all of the adorableness of 1,000 cats.
You can adopt from The Cat House on the Kings.
All of the cats at The Cat House on the Kings are available for adoption. The goal is to find all of the cats and kittens loving houses where they can enjoy their lives. The Cat House on the Kings also serves a sanctuary for any unwanted cats or kittens. The Cat House also partners with local animal care facilities to offer low-cost spay and neuter programs.
The numbers are staggering.
Since its launch 24 years ago, The Cat House on the Kings has saved more than 24,000 cats and kittens and more than 7,000 dogs. The Cat House on the Kings has also helped to spay and neuter more than 40,000 animals.
And to think, it all started with a box of 15 kittens.
