To my sports fans...
I said this in a previous card, but I want you all to know that I don't think I'm going to be able to be on Vingle as much, at least for now. I am in my last semester of college right now and really need to focus on my studies as I finish my degree... plus... you know... that job search that everyone talks about! I've had so much fun being involved with all of you over the past few months through the MLB playoffs (how great were those Mets!?!?), EPL and NFL seasons - culminating with the Super Bowl next week! I know this community can be an amazing resource for everyone and I hope you all continue to share ideas, thoughts, favorite plays and players and games and everything else that I've seen go on here recently. You guys are the best! Thanks for reading and commenting on my posts! Meet AC Milan's 16-year old goalkeeper
Gianluigi Bonnarumma is 16 years old. And he's the starting goalkeeper for AC Milan. No, seriously. The Italian took over for accomplished veteran Diego Lopez -- yes, that Diego Lopez, the one who played for Real Madrid -- and has taken AC Milan's starting job and run with it. He hasn't looked back since making his first start in October. Despite his crazy young age, Donnarumma has been praised by scouts and players alike for his huge frame and amazing reactions. He has already made some crazy saves and is saving points for AC Milan match after match with his acrobatic style. While it's certainly early in the career of the 16-year old, comparisons to Italian great Gianluigi Buffon are abound. Buffon has been the goalkeeper for Italy's national team for years and years, but at 40 years old it looks like his career is coming to an end (even though he is still playing at a very high level). Italians have something to look forward to, though, as it seems they have another keeper ready to fill Buffon's shoes for the next TWO DECADES. The amount of security a 16-year old superstar can afford a team is just crazy. If AC Milan play their cards right, they could have a top class keeper for the next twenty years. Done. Locked up. So, my question for you, football fans, is: What were you doing at age 16? @InPlainSight @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @MarcusJiles @DerekGumtow @havic @yaakattackk @bnzatton @SherzTYCi @krishntejanand @addri @mishthi @andwas @NimishMathur @Sydsocquet @starli @kyleatekwana @BenjiPhilip @Eduardo14 @AshfakEjaaz @EmanueleYagoda
Ronaldo and the Syrian Refugee Boy
Remember that time when a Hungarian journalist intentionally tripped a Syrian refugee carrying his son? Well, the story of Osama Alabed Almohse (the father in the picture) and his youngest son, Ziad, immediately became international news and word spread that Almohse was a soccer coach in Syria. He was then offered a teaching job at CENAFE which is a Spanish school that trains coaches. And it didn't stop there. Last Thursday, Real Madrid president, Florentine Perez, invited Almohse, and his two sons, Mohammad and Ziad, to Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, the home and heart of Real Madrid. But something even greater happened over the weekend during a match between Real Madrid and Granada. Ziad got to walk onto the field of Santiago Bernabeu with his hero and the sport's most recognizable star, Cristiano Ronaldo. Also, Ronaldo and his teammates wore T-shirts that showed their support for all the refugees that have fled Syria. And Real Madrid said the club plans on donating 1 million euros toward the humanitarian cause and help out the Syrian refugees. The club plans on helping Almohse attain refugee status in Spain, but he'll have to first learn how to speak Spanish. Hopefully they can start a new life in Spain and never have to go through the terrible experience they had a few weeks ago. Uruguay v England: Rooney to prove his worth in favoured role
England simply must beat Uruguay to keep qualification in their own hands and while Three Lions fans’ nerves are jangling history suggests Roy’s boys should do the business against the South Americans. Being a European nation England play an admittedly limited amount of football against South American opponents but a look back at the last 20 games shows that we have rarely struggled against the likes of Uruguay. drow last names In the last 20 games against sides from South America England have lost just three, drawn five and won 12 times including against Brazil, Argentina and indeed Uruguay. True, most of these games have been of the friendly variety but England’s World Cup record against South Americans also provides encouraging reading with three wins, one draw and just one defeat – to Brazil. So with the stats suggesting reasons to be confident here are three solid bets for the crunch game. Wayne Rooney to score first @ 6/1 Wazza’s form has been the source of much debate and having never scored a goal at a World Cup finals this one is a bit of a Gut Truster pick. However, the Manchester United man is England’s all-time leading World Cup goal scorer when qualification games are included and after being restored to his favoured central position has never had a better opportunity to shine. We’re backing Wayne to fire us to glory and at 6/1 to open the scoring you should too! Over 2.5 goals to be scored @ 21/20 England will concede, they always do, so any win is likely to need at least two goals from the Three Lions, especially with Luis Suarez likely to be restored to Uruguay’s starting XI. Games involving England and South American rivals are often high-scoring affairs with 20 goals recorded in the last six meetings and an average of 2.85 over the last 20 games. England to win 2-1 @ 9/1 Just six of the last 20 games where England have played a team from South America have seen any side record a victory by more than one goal. So, if you’re backing Uruguay to score – and you should be as they’ve netted in 19 of their last 19 fixtures – then 2-1 looks the most likely result if England are to win, making 9/1 simply too good to turn down. EPL Match of the Week: ARSENAL vs. Chelsea
This week we've got a real gem to look forward to as Chelsea face Arsenal at the Emirates in the EPL. Here's how it all looks to me: Arsenal This could be the return to action for winger Alexis Sanchez, who has been out with injury since November. Arsenal have been playing great football even without him, but when he's healthy he can be easily one of the best players in the league. He can be a huge boost for an Arsenal team attempting to mount a major title challenge and fight off tough competition from Leicester City, Man City and Spurs. Their defense has been really solid with the emerging Hector Bellerin, while the midfield has the strings pulled by Mesut Ozil, who continues to prove that he is one of the best in the whole world. He leads the league in assists and is a real joy to watch. Chelsea We all know about Chelsea's struggles this season. They have been better since Guus Hiddink took over as manager, but still sit in 14th place. For me, a large part of their struggles comes down to the horrible form of Eden Hazard, who has completely failed to live up to the expectations he set for himself during last seasons' PFA Player of the Year winning campaign. He needs to be better, and if he is, Chelsea can mount a challenge toward the upper end of the table. Champions League football is out of the question, but they can still challenge for Europe and it may well start with a big match against Arsenal this weekend. My pick Chelsea have been looking better, but Arsenal are the best team in the league getting their best player back from injury. For me, that settles it. Arsenal 2, Chelsea 1. Who takes it for you? @InPlainSight @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @MarcusJiles @DerekGumtow @havic @yaakattackk @bnzatton @SherzTYCi @krishntejanand @addri @mishthi @andwas @NimishMathur @Sydsocquet @starli @kyleatekwana @BenjiPhilip @Eduardo14 @AshfakEjaaz @EmanueleYagoda @Bobs
