Hey Vingle Nakama!
It's Manga Monday here again in the Anime community, so that means we're talking about all things Manga! Anime gets lots of love, so let's not forget the source material that our favorite anime are based on.
Today I want to share this relatively new manga that everyone should try reading. It's called Black Clover and it began in 2015.
Here's the basic summary of the manga:
Aster and Yuno were abandoned together at the same church, and have been inseparable since. As children, they promised that they would compete against each other to see who would become the next sorcerous emperor. However, as they grew up, some differences between them became plain. Yuno was a genius with magic, with amazing power and control, while Aster could not use magic at all, and tried to make up for his lack by training physically. When they received their grimoires at age 15, Yuno got a spectacular book with a four-leaf-clover (most people receive a three-leaf-clover), while Aster received nothing at all. However, when Yuno was threatened, the truth about Aster's power was revealed-- he received a five-leaf-clover grimoire, a 'black clover' book of anti-magic. Now the two friends are heading out in the world, both seeking the same goal!
Off the bat, there's some stuff here that I really like. You've got this established duality with two main characters who've been inseparable forever. One seems to get all the best of the best, his potential clear and plain to see, while the other is the 'black sheep' who initially is thought to be valueless.
With that dynamic at play, the interactions between the two are probably funny and interesting. Yuno being this prodigy with the 'spectacular' book and Aster with his anti-magic is a great base for building against and with one another's strengths.
I haven't started this manga yet but it looks promising, especially for a new title!
