Learn This Lift: Russian Twists

Ready for a good core workout? For Russian twists all you need are dumbbells (or medicine ball). I would say this is intermediate as far as difficulty -- especially if you want to them right. BUT I HAVE FAITH IN ALL OF YOU OKAY MY GYM RATS. <3333

1) Sit on the floor and raise your feet. Have your knees bent. With both hands, hold a dumbbell.
2) Keep your core stabilized and engaged. Keep arms straight. Rotate from side-to-side.
3) Return to starting position.
TIP: If you find it difficult keep your feet off the ground, it's okay to set them down!
If you have any additional tips for this exercise, please let me know in the comments below and I will add them to this card. :)

@Chrisingularis woops I just saw your comment. That's a really good question, that I unfortunately don't have an answer for. I know what you mean about the back pain. When I have my foot on the ground, or fixed under a foot pad, I have less pain.

But if it causes you pain, I'd move on to another core exercise. No use in doing something that hurts. @Chrisingularis

@alywoah well this is not one of my favorite but I do it every once in a blue moon. Core also consist the back and abs so I thought it would do justice to the core. For obliques, my favorite are hanging oblique crunch or decline oblique crunch

this is one of my favorites for core. if you want to increase the difficulty, cross your feet @ the ankles & lean back. for those having back pain, just hold the position with your arms extended. that's the mod I had to use while pregnant.
