Love Much With Oysters

If you want to ratchet up the naughty behavior this Valentine's Day, then you need to include the aphrodisiac must-have, oysters come meal time. Oh, and you need to do it with, not champagne, but with absinthe!
From Russell Moore's "This Is Camino" cook book, which emphasizes the beauty and value in fire-based cooking, comes this scintillating recipe that I discovered through Imbibe Magazine, which you can see here.

Ingredients

½ large fennel bulb with fronds
1 stick unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1 scallion
6 mint leaves
Splash of absinthe
¾ cup breadcrumbs
Salt
24 oysters (fresh, fresh, fresh!!!)

Directions

Preheat oven to 500 degrees F (preferably in an oven that's not on its last leg).
Trim the fennel, reserving a handful of the fronds for the filling and saving the rest of the fronds and the stems to line the baking dish.
Finely dice the trimmed fennel bulb, then sauté it in 1 tablespoon of the butter for about a minute.
Add a splash of water and cook until tender, about 2 more minutes.
Split the scallion lengthwise, then cut it into fine slices.
Finely chop the mint and the handful of fennel fronds. Work them together with the scallion, cooked fennel, absinthe, breadcrumbs, a pinch of salt and the remaining butter.
If the butter is not well incorporated, you will end up with pools of butter in the oyster shells. Use an oyster knife to shuck the shellfish, leaving the oyster on the half shell and taking care not to spill the flavorful liquor.
Set the shells carefully in a baking dish lined with the rest of the fennel stems and fronds to hold them upright.
Put about a tablespoon of the breadcrumb mixture on top of each oyster and bake until the breadcrumbs are brown, approximately 6 minutes.
All you need to do next is indulge your senses with this luxe and sexy dish, sure to please both of you with residual effects!

Healthy lifestyle comes quickly and inevitably: shelves with organic products, farm meat and vegetables are already beginning to appear on shelves in stores, sports halls are opening. Reasons for the popularity of healthy lifestyle A correct lifestyle contributes not only to an overall improvement in the state of the body, but also to the appearance of the person. What are the criteria for a healthy lifestyle? This is a rational diet, physical activity corresponding to a person’s age and condition, a good sleep and many other little things that positively affect the state of the human body. Anyone who follows the basic rules of a healthy lifestyle compares favorably with others: he has a fresh complexion, good posture and a lively look, always full of energy , the desire to try something interesting. It is impossible not to notice him against the background of people with gray puffy faces, voluminous bellies, shortness of breath and stooped backs, with difficulty carrying themselves through life from the couch to work. He who observes the main components of the healthy lifestyle clearly understands how much effort and time he needs to maintain himself in perfect condition, so he will not spend a second on meaningless or unpleasant actions. This is especially valuable in the age of high technology, when every minute counts. Healthy lifestyle components A healthy lifestyle is a combination of several basic elements, including the following: - proper nutrition; - physical exercise; - healthy sleep; - rational distribution of time; - refusal of excesses. All these components of a healthy lifestyle are fundamental. It is a mistake to think that in order to change life, it is enough to change one thing. You can’t give up part of bad habits, and be content with it. Fundamental changes are always needed for fundamental changes. Each person has a different character, and where one can, by a willful decision, immediately abandon all that is superfluous, the other will better abandon the idea of self-improvement, fearing the burden of future worries. Therefore, psychologists advise not to rush to apply all the main components of a healthy lifestyle at once, but to do it gradually in order to first unconsciously accept the basics of a healthy lifestyle and make changes easier to transfer. Where to start a healthy lifestyle A healthy lifestyle begins with a person realizing that he does not live correctly. And for everyone this happens in different ways: someone notices a too big figure on the scales, someone feels unsatisfied, broken, tired, someone constantly gets sick. Sometimes people for years come to the idea that just a diet or prevention of colds is not enough to solve their problems. And it seems to them that they are leading the right way of life, since they abandoned any one component of the past: they quit drinking or smoking, started going to the gym or went on a diet. However, HLS is not one small concession, but a large set of measures for self-improvement, and although it should be started small, we must strive for more. Such components of a healthy lifestyle as regular exercise and proper cooking cannot just be discarded or replaced with less time-consuming options. Healthy lifestyle and its components The main components of a healthy lifestyle are not the only ones, but they are the basis of a new mode of existence, which should not be taken as punishment or torment, but as a kind of peak, the achievement of which is interesting and exciting. There is no one true option, as there is no one most correct spiritual practice, because all people are different, and the ways that lead them to a state of inner harmony are different for everyone. One thing is certain for sure: nutrition is always included in the basics of a healthy lifestyle in the forefront, since the spiritual state directly depends on the body. The body is actually a “box” for the soul, it is impossible to get to what is inside without changing the container so that you can freely engage in the state of content. Nutrition has a huge impact on health, not in vain for many diseases, doctors prescribe certain diets. Sport lifestyle Without physical activity, it is also impossible to talk about self-improvement. An unsportsmanlike person is often melancholy, inclined to forgive his minor weaknesses. He has no habit of loading muscles, overcoming himself, he will easily violate the basic principles of a healthy lifestyle due to the lack of self-discipline. Sport not only heals, it also contributes to the formation of a beautiful appearance, and the joy of contemplating the reflection in the mirror, the pride, pleasure that people receive when they look at the updated version of themselves, only support their desire to observe the right lifestyle. As a basis for a healthy lifestyle, sports are simply irreplaceable: exercises help improve blood circulation, joints, stimulate the production of certain hormones, improve the general condition of the human body. Gyms offer a huge selection of different activities for people of all ages and physical abilities, so even old age cannot be an obstacle if you want to start a healthy lifestyle. Rational distribution of time Some factors of a healthy lifestyle underestimate, in particular, the ability to distribute time in such a way as to comply with all the principles of a healthy lifestyle. A feature of cardinal changes is the inextricable relationship between the amount of effort spent on preparing for them and the process of mastering the unusual rules of a healthy lifestyle that will allow this lifestyle to be called truly healthy. A healthy lifestyle requires self-denial, a willingness to spend part of the time providing yourself with wholesome foods, preparing appropriate dishes, and training. It takes less than half an hour to cook semi-finished products. On a trip to the store for the appropriate ingredients, cooking will have to spend more time, and you need to do this constantly. But even with such an aspiration, one should not forget that you should not rush into the pool of self-improvement thoughtlessly. The criteria for healthy lifestyles appeared for a reason, they are justified.666 For example, with a number of diseases it is impossible to violate a prescribed diet, even in order to lead a healthy lifestyle; one should not try to perform sets of exercises for trained athletes through force, if the physical form leaves much to be desired - instead of benefit, there is a high probability of injury; attempts to achieve an enhanced effect by changing the terms of diets to large ones will turn healthy food into a dangerous hunger strike, and excessive zeal will turn into harm instead of benefit. Knowing of limits You can’t talk about the rules applicable for the transition to a healthy lifestyle, without mentioning a very important point. There are healthy lifestyle factors that significantly affect the outcome, and one of them is a sense of proportion. The right way of life is built on limitations, self-discipline, building a system of habits that allows you to maintain a healthy lifestyle and its components in the long run. A person cannot exist in a regime of severe restrictions; moreover, they are usually developed so that there is no excessive psychological pressure, and chronic fatigue from self-denial does not occur. A sense of proportion - that’s what guides the experts who develop recommendations for nutrition, exercise and other components of a healthy lifestyle. Do not seriously violate the timing, diet, and so on, as this can become dangerous. Other healthy lifestyle factors Other aspects that affect the process of self-improvement include: - psychological preparedness for breakdowns; - the ability to replace prohibited products with others, since refusing is always more difficult than replacing with an analog; - the ability to consistently implement the plan and so on. What is healthy lifestyle? A modern person simply cannot get out of reality, which teaches what HLS is, because we are all unique, and to preserve this uniqueness, to keep it as close as possible to an ideal state, is an excellent goal in life. Homemade Pop-Tarts? Oh Hells Yeah!
I never want to eat a store bought Pop-Tart again. Not after looking at this recipe, which uses real, flaky butter pastry (instead of crumbly cardboard dough) and your favorite fruit preserves (instead of sugar mixed with red dye 40). The homemade frosting and cheerful rainbow sprinkles are the icing on the cake! For now, here's the recipe for your new favorite breakfast (or anytime) treat. Homemade Pop-Tarts Prep Time: 20 mins. Chill Time: 3 hours. Cook Time: 30 mins. Difficulty: Medium Makes 8 pop-tarts What You'll Need For the pastry: 2 cups + 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling 1 tsp salt 1 tsp granulated sugar 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced into 1/2-inch cubes 4 - 5 Tbsp ice water 3/4 cup strawberry preserves, divided (or other preserve of choice) For the icing: 1 cup powdered sugar 2 Tbsp half and half, plus more as needed 1/4 tsp vanilla extract What To Do 1. Make the pastry dough: Pulse together flour, salt and granulated sugar in a food processor. Add butter and continue to pulse until the butter is broken up, and the mixture has a mealy texture. Add 4 tablespoons of water and pulse a few times until it comes together into dough; if it fails to come together, add another tablespoon of water and pulse again. 2. On a clean surface, divide dough into two portions. Shape each into a 5-inch dish, cover with plastic wrap, and chill in the fridge for 1 hour. Meanwhile, line two rimmed cookie sheets with parchment paper. 3. Remove one disk from the fridge; leave the other one to chill. Roll out the dough disk into a rectangle measuring approximately 13 inches by 11 inches. If edges crack, just stick them back together and keep rolling. Trim edges just so, so you have a 12"x10" perfect rectangle. Cut this into 8 5"x3" rectangles. 4. Arrange 4 rectangles evenly spaced on the parchment-lined cookie sheet; spread 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of jam evenly down the center of each rectangle. Seal edges with fingertips, then reseal with a fork. Use a tooth pick to poke the top of each tart 4 times. Let chill in the freezer for at least 2 hours, or up to one week. 5. Repeat process with second disk of dough. 6. Preheat oven to 375°F. With one rack in the upper third of the oven and one in the bottom third, bake frozen tarts until golden, rotating racks halfway through baking. It will take about 25-30 minutes in all. Allow to cool on the cookie sheet for several minutes, then transfer to wire rack. 7. Make the icing: Whisk together all ingredients, then add additional half and half a 1/2 teaspoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency. Spread over cooled pop-tarts, then dust with rainbow sprinkles. Allow to set at room temperature. Store in an airtight container. Enjoy! Beer Battered Fish
Continuing with food spiked with some alcohol, I never knew that you could batter your fries with beer!!! who would have known that adding beer it would make your fish crispier and take that batter to the next level of flavor? Ingredients: - 2 cups (250 grams) all-purpose flour - 1 teaspoon (4 grams) baking powder - 1 (12 ounce) (355ml) bottle of beer, any light colored beer - 1 teaspoon (8 grams) salt - 1 teaspoon (8 grams) freshly cracked black pepper - 1 teaspoon (8 grams) garlic powder - ½ teaspoon (4 grams) cayenne pepper - 1 cup (125 grams) all-purpose flour (this is for dredging) - 1½ pounds fresh cod fillets, cut into long strips (5 to 6 inches long) - canola oil for frying - lemon wedges, for drizzling at the end - malt vinegar, for drizzling at the end - fresh parsley, chopped for garnish Preparation: 1) In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, and beer until a smooth thin batter forms. If the batter is too thick add a bit more beer (or water or club soda) to thin it out. If the batter is too thin add a bit more flour to thicken it. It should be thinner than a pancake batter but slightly thicker than a crepe batter. Loosely cover with plastic wrap and let stand at room temperature for at least 30 minutes but 2 hours would be better. 2) Cut the cod fillets into (5 to 6 inch) strips. My rule of thumb is that 1 (8-ounce) fillet can feed about 2 people. Pat the fish with a paper towel to make sure it is completely dry. Season both sides with some of the salt, black pepper, garlic powder and cayenne pepper. Reserve half of the seasonings for later on. In a shallow dish, pour the 1 cup of all-purpose flour and the reserved salt, black pepper, garlic powder and cayenne pepper, whisk or stir to combine. That is your flour dredging. We do this so the beer batter can stick to the fish. 3) In a large pot, or dutch oven, heat oil to 375°. If you fill up the pot halfway with oil, that should be fine. Once the oil is hot, the fish is ready to be fried. Working with one strip at a time, dip the fish into the seasoned flour, coat evenly on both sides. Then dip the fish into the beer batter, completely dunking it until it is fully submerged. Drain excess batter and then carefully drop the battered fish into the oil. Don’t overcrowd the pot, work in batches. 4) Fry for 4 to 6 minutes on the first side. Flip it over and continue to cook for another 2 to 3 minutes on the second side. Only flip the fish once. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Transfer to a cooling rack placed on top of a baking sheet. Repeat with remaining fish. To keep the fried fish warm and crispy until ready to eat, place the baking sheet in a 200°F oven. Serve warm with lemon wedges, malt vinegar and a sprinkling of chopped fresh parsley. 18-Year-Old Ties The Knot With His 71-Year-Old Soulmate.
Disclaimer: This is a true story, you guys. Almeda Errell didn't expect to fall in love. The 71-year-old just buried her eldest son, Robert, after losing him to diabetes complications. But, of all places, she met her soulmate at Robert's funeral - a 17-year-old Walmart cashier named Gary. "I wasn't looking for a young man, but Gary just came along," Almeda admitted in an interview with the Daily Mail. "I just knew straight away that he was the one." Gary and Almeda hadn't met before. Almeda was a widow with grown children and grandkids, and Gary was just finishing high school - and already in a rocky relationship with another 77-year-old woman. "We were always fighting," said Gary. "I fell into depression and was looking for a way out." The two were introduced at the funeral by Robert's widow, Lisa, who just so happened to be Gary's aunt. Lisa invited Gary to the funeral, and when he went to give Almeda his condolences, it apparently wasn't too long before sparks flew. "When I told Lisa that I liked Almeda, she said that she liked me too," Gary recalled. "And that she should get us together." For the most part, the pair says that family and friends gave the relationship their blessings. However, there was at least a little skepticism. "Some family members thought Gary was far too young for me, and that I must be crazy," said Almeda. "I told him I wasn't crazy, and that we loved each other." Once he turned 18, Gary proposed to her over the phone, and three weeks after becoming a couple, the pair were married in an intimate ceremony. Currently, the newlyweds live in Almeda's five-bedroom house with her 40-year-old daughter, DeAnna, and grandkids Aaron and Indianna, respectively aged 21 and 16. Peanut Butter Cup Stuffed S'mores Brownies
When it comes to the campfire roasted, ooey-gooey perfection that is s'mores, I'm a purist. I've never once considered putting anything but two rectangles of good ol' Hershey milk chocolate between marshmallow and graham cracker. But then I found this recipe at Melanie Makes, and I don't care what you say, about blasphemy or anything else – once you've seen this picture, there's no going back. I HAVE to try putting a peanut butter cup on a s'more. It's a physical need. And if I don't do it soon, I might explode. So somebody come over and make these brownies with me tonight, please – it's an emergency. Peanut Butter Cup Stuffed S'mores Brownies Prep Time: 20 min. Cook Time: 45 min. Difficulty: Easy. Makes one 9"x13" pan of brownies. Recipe by Melanie Bauer of Melanie Makes Ingredients For the Graham Cracker Crust: 3 cups graham cracker crumbs ¼ cup sugar ¼ teaspoon salt ¾ cup butter, melted For the Brownies: ¾ cup cocoa ¾ cup butter, melted 2 Tablespoons hot water 1 2/3 cup sugar 2 eggs, beaten 2 teaspoons vanilla 1 1/3 cup flour ½ teaspoon baking powder ¼ teaspoon salt 12 peanut butter cups 1 dark chocolate candy bar 24 jet-puffed marshmallows Directions 1. First, make the Graham Cracker Crust: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13 pan and set aside. In a medium bowl, stir together graham cracker crumbs, sugar, salt and butter until combined. Pour into prepared pan and press into an even layer. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until set and beginning to brown. 2. Now, make the Brownie batter: In a large bowl, stir together cocoa, melted butter and hot water. Add sugar, eggs and vanilla and stir until well combined. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt until just combined. 3. Add the PB Cups and Chocolate: Top graham cracker crust with brownie mixture, spreading in an even layer. Press peanut butter cups into brownie batter in three rows of four. Break the candy bar into individual pips or pieces and place in horizontal and vertical rows between peanut butter cups. 4. Bake, broil, and enjoy! Bake for 18-20 minutes or until just set. Remove brownies from oven and turn oven to broil setting. Add marshmallows to top of brownies pressing lightly to adhere them to the warm brownies. Broil for 2-3 minutes or until they reach desired char level. Let brownies cool completely before attempting to cut and serve.
