Gender Inequality has been a big issue in Hollywood that has been swept under the rug for quite sometime now.
While many have struggled attempting to find an answer to this problem it seems as if Twilight actress Kristen Stewart believes she just solved the gender inequality issue plaguing Hollywood.
After all these years of being underpaid and overlooked for both off-screen and on-screen positions, it looks like all women have to do is one simple thing.
During an interview with Variety, Stewart shared a simple solution to a problem that has plagued Hollywood for generations.
“Instead of sitting around and complaining about that, do something,” she said. “Go write something, go do something.”
“And that’s easy to say,” she continued. “Like, f**k, it’s hard to get movies made. It’s a huge luxury. Who gets to just make movies? But that subject is just so prevalently everywhere right now, and it’s boring.”
I mean, creating something is half the battle, getting it distributed and getting compensated fairly is the big issue, isn't it?
Am I the only one who sees how impractical and silly this solution is? Help me on this one fellow Vinglers.
Well she's technically not wrong. It might be the wrong way to change the whole industry but that sort of thing will likely occur incrementally anyway.
It's not like no single woman has ever written or tried to produce a film. But since men in the industry have been stealing credit for women's work for years I don't really see how more of that would help. The issue isn't that women are just sitting around and complaining. It's that their work is under-valued
Ugh yeah this bugs me a lot, because women ARE doing stuff. We've been creating and producing things for a freaking long time now. The issue is valuing and recognizing these creators. Giving real talented women jobs!
