This War of Mine is an Indie Game that came out last year about those who live in a war-torn country. Unlike other war games, This War of Mine was about surviving each day and taking care of those who were displaced by the ongoing war. There's a day-and-night cycle where you build and craft during the day and at night you scavenge for more materials. It's a game that makes you think and it's one that's, well, kind of hard to play.
Today, This War of Mine: The Little Ones was released on Xbox One and PS4 and it looks like it raises the stakes even higher and, honestly, makes you think a little harder and maybe feel a little uncomfortable. The Little Ones expansion adds children to the mix. And the tagline for the game asks you how far you'll go to protect the little ones.
This War of Mine is already a startling game but by adding children into their game, it makes it even more alarming. And these feelings, for me anyway, bring up thoughts of what's going on in the real world. Sure, this is an uncomfortable game to play but it's doing something other than only giving us a game to play with some pretty sweet crafting mechanics.
It also makes us think about the world around us. There are definitely areas around the world where this is a real issue for people. And This War of Mine allows people to experience something other than what they already have without glorifying it. It's a meaningful game only made more meaningful with its console iteration. It's a game I definitely want to play and I'll be sure to write a little bit about it once I start.
This War of Mine: The Little Ones is available for Digital Download on Xbox One and PS4.
