Hey Beautiful Nakama!
It's Throwback Thursday again, and I wanted to give a shout-out to one of the funnier anime that I watched when I was younger. This anime isn't quite as deep a throwback as some others would be, but the original manga started back in 2002, so I think that makes it okay.
The anime is Air Gear, and for those who haven't heard of it, it's a very strange anime about rollerblading.
Here's the summary from the wiki page:
A new fad by the name of 'Air Treks' (a futuristic evolution of aggressive skating) has swept the nation's youth and all over gangs are being formed that compete in various events using their A-T's. Ikki is a middle-school boy who is the toughest street-fighting punk on the east side of town, on top of that he lives with 4 gorgeous sisters that took him in when he was a kid. But what Ikki doesn't know is that the girls are part of one of the most infamous A-T gangs, 'Sleeping Forest'. It doesn't take long before Ikki finds out about the world of Air Treks and is propelled into a fate he had not foreseen.
The anime is a pretty interesting collection of different characters, including Kazu a speed-type rider who inherited the title of Flame King following the path of the Flame Road, along with Spitfire's (the former flame king) old AT's.
Air Gear was a generally bright and high-energy anime, and the character dynamics are fun and interesting. Plus, the action is fast-paced and exciting, with everyone racing around on their ATs. It's a high-octane, ultimately fun, anime.
So if you like laughs and speed and weird rollerblading techniques, dig this old anime up and give it a watch!
