War veteran uses military dog's ashes for commemorative tattoo
This is one of those stories that is so painful to hear, but also makes your heart fill with love because of the goodness that exists in the world. This story might make you cry, but it will also make you smile.

A man's best friend.

Sergeant Dave Heyhoe and his black Labrador, Treo, both served in Afghanistan and Treo became known as one of the bravest dogs in the British military. Treo was awarded the Dickin's medal, a prestigious award in the British military. Treo served as a bomb detection dog and Sergeant Heyhoe was his handler.
The bond that formed between Sergeant Heyhoe and Treo during their service continued long after their tours of duty in Afghanistan finished. When Treo retired from service, Sergeant Heyhoe adopted Treo and they continued living together.

Memorialized in ink.

At the age of 14, Treo passed away. Sergeant Heyhoe, his wife and kids were devastated with the loss of Treo. Sergeant Heyhoe visited a tattoo artist who incorporated Treo's ashes into ink and then tattooed the commemorative tattoo on Sergeant Heyhoe, which is pictured above.

What an amazing way to honor an amazing animal, comrade and friend.
