This Song You Need is a little different than the last one's because I'm highlighting a cover of a song instead of the actual song by Nada Surf. I've been in a pretty weird mood when it comes to love and being in a relationship and how I fit in to all of it. And while I was looking for something to listen to while I brushed my teeth this morning, I came across this song.
The title of the song, Inside of Love, makes it seem like it's about the experience of being in a relationship and how good that might feel. But it's actually more about being outside of it and looking in. And in my experience, I've been in that situation more times than I can count. Even though I've lived most of my life outside of real, true love, I don't doubt that other people have felt the same way.
And this song, definitely gets it. I especially love the way Kevin Devine covers this song. It's not any better or worse than the Nada Surf version but I think it's different and it's closer to what I'd prefer listening to. If you want to listen to the Nada Surf version, you can do so by clicking here. But I've left Kevin Devine's version for you guys below.
[from the beginning of the song:] Making out with people. I hardly know or like. I can't believe what I do, late at night. I wanna know what it's like on the inside of love. I'm standing at the gates. I see the beauty above.
[and the later on in the song:] I wanna know what it's like on the inside of love. I'm standing at the gates. I see the beauty above. I wanna know what it's like on the inside of love. I can't find my way in. I try again and again. I'm on the outside of love. Always under or above, I can't find my way in. I try again and again. I'm on the outside of love. Always under or above. Must be a different view, to be a me with a you.
